Hard to put this book down.
So interesting. One of those books that is hard to put down at the beginning. Then hard to pick up near the end, not wanting for the book to finish. Such an inspiration to others. Such a hard working man. Love this book.

Insights from a Prophet’s Life
This wonderful book has given me great insight into this amazing man’s character, his ideals, his undying curiosity, his striving for knowledge, his undeviating loyalty to God, his great love of family which also includes all cultures and all of humanity, and his total dedication to that which is right and good. His intellect is immense, and he is conversant in Mandarin, Russian, and Spanish, while many of us struggle to be fluent in our native language. This book reveals his vigor and vitality in all things, and motivates me to listen to his counsel even more. He is a man of God - excellent work Sheri Drew!

A Great Way to Get to Know a Great Man
I thought I knew about Russel M. Nelson, having grown up a member of the church, but this shed light on so many details I never knew that led him to be the incredible man he is today. I highly recommend this book to church members and non-members alike.

Most Inspirational book in a decade
I loved the glimpses into Russell M. Nelson's life as a surgeon, husband & father. To hear the details of the development of the heart lung machine is beyond fascinating. I loved hearing about his dedication to follow the counsel of his priesthood leaders; President Spencer Kimball to learn Mandarin, and President Harold B. Lee to turn down the lucrative offer in Chicago and continue his work in Utah, and see how he was blessed as a result of his willingness to follow counsel. It's impossible to not admire this man after reading this book!

Every Chapter was Interesting
I loved the book and Sheri Dew's style of writing. Each chapter is short, often with a clever quote as the heading. For example, one of last chapters in the book has this title, "One question we've wrestled with is how to take the gospel in its simple purity and the ordinances with their eternal efficacy to all of God's children without having basketball hoops get in the way." That particular chapter has a quote by a Muslim man who said, "When your Christianity is simple enough that I can take it with me on the back of a camel, I will be interested." There is a lot of food for thought on these pages. In an earlier chapter, a granddaughter said that "her grandfather is the one who taught her how to AirDrop photos." The book is over 400 pages, 400 pages of very interesting historical information, fun details, great stories, inspiring stories, some sad stories. Some of the information was very personal, some very spiritual. In a few cases I knew the story, but Sister Dew added intriguing background details that I hadn't known. I am an avid reader, and I enjoy non-fiction simply because sometimes I need to put a book down and get to other things. I honestly had trouble putting this book down. At the end, I felt humbled. President Nelson has lived an incredible life, accomplished many wonderful and difficult challenges, but he is still a mortal man with sorrows, heartbreaks, tragedies, accidents, successes, honors, awards, he's lived it all, and he's done it quite humbly. I can recommend this book to anyone, LDS or not, religious or not. This is an extremely well-written biography of a very interesting man. I'm getting on in years, so I have a little mantra: "It takes a great life to make a good funeral." In this case, it takes a great life to make a good biography. Sister Dew had wonderful material to work with, and this book is as excellent as the biography of Gordon B. Hinckley.

Written so well, Inspirational
I love this book because I learned so much about the Prophet Russell M. Nelson and I'm honored to call him the Prophet! The things he's done and gone through in his life is remarkable. His outlook on life and his optimism about the future is contagious. I'm grateful to know that no one is immune to challenges in life, even the Prophet.I have shared stories out of this book with many already.

Beyond inspiring
I found I could not put this book down, and expect that ill read it many more times. I underlined passages that apply directly to experiences and issues of today, even though the passage I marked may have been from 40 or 50 years ago. He is a consummate leader and teacher and I appreciate the way Sheri Dew has woven these more personal stories and insights together to add to an existing biography. three years have passed since the writing of this book, and I already feel as though another volume could be written. We have never seen the likes of Russell M Nelson, nor have we seen the last. His energy and enthusiasm are contagious. I too had a witness of his calling, knowing he'd be prophet someday and finding great peace in his teachings. I know he was called of God and continues to receive revelation from him. I would follow him anywhere.
