Inside Limetron is the unique patented Fluid Dynamics catalytic alloy. It is made from a combination of semi-precious metals that react with water. When water flows through Limetron the natural conductivity of the water causes the metals to react with one another generating an electrical field on the surface of the alloy. This electrical field causes the calcium and bicarbonate ions to precipitate from the water forming an insoluble microscopic calcium carbonate crystal called aragonite. The smooth surface of this aragonite crystal cannot adhere to surfaces in the same way as lime scale and is washed through the system and exits down the drain. If aragonite deposits for example through evaporation on surfaces such as shower screens the deposits are much easier to remove and do not require chemicals or aggressive cleaning actions. It's not like softened water but it feels softer even though it's not. Weird, but it works and you don't need a complex installation to avoid your boiler like with water softeners plus it doesn't replace the calcium with sodium like the softeners which where I am (St Albans) would mean adding an extra 1.4g of sodium to your diet a day (in 8 cups). If you don't mind the complex installation or sodium then a water softener is better (no limescale at all, not just easy to clean magic limescale), but if you do then this is a good option. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Seems Ok *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 11 October 2020* We had a direct hot water cylinder fitted and added this Limetron 15mm. First in kitchen the cold was cloudy and a large thick substance came out of the hot tap. Now a month later the cold seems much cleaner and the hot seems OK. The shower does leave a film on the s creen but nowhere near as bad as before. ### ⭐ Better than I thought it would be, but only for 2 years! *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 20 June 2022* My heating engineer told me about this device and said it wasn't perfect but it's the best thing to buy if you don't want to fit a water softener and you can drink the water straight from the tap. You will still need to descale the kettle but it'll only take a couple of minutes once a month as the limescale can almost be wiped away. It's noticeable in the shower too - no hard build up just a simple wipe - I always finish off with a few squirts of shower cleaner and leave to dryYES, I would recommend this product.Update:Only 2 years on and the kettle is scaling again after only a few days of use. Quite expensive for only two years use.
