It's water resistant and would probably come away from a Big Gulp (44oz) direct hit just fine but I wouldn't test its buoyancy i
First off let me just say that the "coolness" value of this thing is priceless. You take out that zippered, black CSI-type mobile forensic lab kit and calmly remove a rugged, rubberized hi-tech looking contraption, flip up the display panel and boot it....people trip out. Then they see it booting a...full Windows installation complete with login chime and they invariably ask if that is some kind of underwater laptop. Well, kinda. It's water resistant and would probably come away from a Big Gulp (44oz) direct hit just fine but I wouldn't test its buoyancy in a bathtub or pool. :)And yes, it IS a full laptop with three USB inputs and an SD card slot. It is touch screen with stylus connected and very easy to use. If that was all it was, it would be a pretty nifty, James Bond-ish conversation piece and iPad substitute (rainy days? Camping? It has a SIM slot for 4G as well). But that's just the opening act. The real oohs and ahhs come when you demo it for them. Everybody loves their phone, right? It's their Facebook their Google their games chat life life Life! No iPhone/Nexus/GalaxyNote they flip out. They also are concerned with privacy issues and, conversely, secretly wish they could know what certain others are up to on their phones. And they've never seen or heard of anything like this. Until now.You whip out the cable/connector folio from the case, a large, slightly unwieldy thingamajig that handling is a lot like trying to fold a map in a car, and peruse the dozens of neatly organized, labeled and lock-slotted specialized connectors. You remove one and click it to a phone, then connect to the Cellebrite. What...is that thing?? You mumble something about forensic recovery and data pathology while you pop a usb thumb drive in the other side. The Cellebrite has now gone into automatic discover mode and prompts you to confirm that you want it to probe the recesses of a LG Optimus. Click, Click. Now a menu of what is recoverable and if you want all of it or just a chunk and then it's done. And in your hand is the thumb drive with the call history, pics, videos, settings, audio, even ringtones from the device. In about a minute or two. Could you have cloned it to another phone? Yes, but not the ESN, etc. Only the data generated by the user since acquiring the phone. Can it be used to securely erase the data areas of phones? Yup. Back up and wipe it in 5 minutes, it's a major plus.Because this is a forensic device it is prevented from writing to the "source" device so that any evidence obtained (yes, police are a big Cellebrite demographic) can be assured uncontaminated by the host. But if you put a device on the transfer side of the unit, it can be overwritten and even reformatted (always back up first).I've never NOT seen anybody go bananas over this and when I was doing P.I. work it garnered immediate respect for me as a professional that had state of the art tools to accomplish what the client could not. It validated their decision.Downside? It doesn't always give you everything you want. Just SMs, no phone records, etc. it also can not read a locked phone, but there are ways around that (try Google). But that's all I can think of bad. There is the licensing thing where it prompts you all the time to renew but I never bothered because it worked fine for all my needs. Hope this helps!
