Soothing and Effective
I have successfully applied this type of product for years to remove excessive ear wax. I have found it to be easy and comfortable to use as well as safe and effective. After tiring of excess, impacted ear wax causing hearing impairment, I contacted my otolaryngologist to have my accumulated wax removed and then began a monthly regimen applying my ear irrigation syringe to maintain wax-free ear canals (I asked this doctor if he believed that the syringe system was safe, and he grudgingly acknowledged that it was; but you should always consult your own physician first before use and follow all directives accompanying the product). I perform my irrigation routine monthly during a shower, drawing warm water directly from the showerhead, finding this the most convenient method, but you will want to establish your own routine and frequency after reading all directions enclosed with the product. Bear in mind that the rubbery material on the plunger will harden over time and use, requiring syringe replacement. But you may find like me that you can enjoy years of service per syringe before replacement is required. In the meantime, you will probably benefit from better hearing. I gladly include this item in my layperson's medical bag. Can no longer imagine being without it. I offer a solid recommendation.

So amazing! I haven't heard that well in years!
It kind of freaked me out after using this...I'd forgotten that things like sheets rustle when you move in them at night and the that carpet makes a sound when you step on it with bare feet. This device is awesome...takes a lot of work (i.e. you have to do it many times and give some time in between if you're like me) but it's so worth it and better than pretty much anything outside a professional doctor's office. Bless whoever came up with the design. Just keep doing it until you start getting out gobs of wax. You need to press it hard. The design means you can put it in as far as it'll go and press down with all your might and you won't hurt yourself...the water squirts out the sides of the tip as shown...a lot nicer than the ball type designs. Didn't give me a pressure headache either. Definitely do it near a sink...you'll be using a lot of water and it can get messy. Also, I waited very eagerly for this for almost a week...when it came and I used it, I was singing its praises very loudly. So my boyfriend ran to CVS (where I had looked but not found anything like this) and returned with the identical item in different packaging. He paid only about $2 more and didn't have to wait. Just FYI. No matter where you buy this though if you or someone you know has wax issues, this is SOOO worth it. Really works on the very oily wax too. This is a quality of life issue...knowing now how well it works and how much annoyance, pain, and bad hearing it has corrected, I'd say the benefit gained was worth hundreds of dollars (how much I would have paid a doctor for this result). Not that I'd pay that when it's available for this price, but still :) Update on 3/11/2013: I don't use it as often as I should - every 2-3 months when my ears start feeling plugged again...and every time it continues to amaze me! So yeah, still HIGHLY recommended. Update on 5/8/2014: Same as previous update - every time I use this, I wonder why I waited so long since the last time. It's still amazing and seems so miraculous afterward. Device is easy to clean and doesn't get gross.

A cost-effective solution
I've had problems with earwax for years, and it seems to get worse as I get older and the wax inexplicably gets softer. Two or three times a year, the wax will totally block my ear canals or stick en masse to my eardrums, and only syringing will get the wax blockages out so I can hear properly again. For the last 7 or 8 years, I've used a syringe by an independent producer / Internet seller that you may have already encountered if you've stumbled across my humble review here. Said seller's product has a 90-degree angled tip and is designed for self-use, to be used in the shower. It's worked decently, but the nozzle cracked within a year of my original purchase, and finally fractured beyond repair after several "patch jobs" over the years by yours truly. I paid $50 for this syringe years ago, and thought that was bad enough; the new syringes from the same seller are $75 shipped apiece. I do like to support independent businesses, but that's just way too much money for a buck's worth of machine-molded plastic. So I gambled on this straight syringe for a tiny fraction of that price. I am happy to report that it works just about as well, maybe even better, than the syringe I thought was the "only game in town" for self-use. I also found it faster to use, since I was filling it from a glass and not the showerhead. In about five minutes / ten fill-squirt cycles, I was able to remove a ridiculous blockage that has resisted all reasonable efforts to extract it for a week now (including painful, prolonged attacks with a curette from my wife the nurse). My biggest complaint about this syringe: It would be nice if it would hold more than 25ccs of liquid. This would be a little more difficult to manage in self-use, but more prolonged blasts are often useful to knock out the stuff that's really stuck. This is a far more effective tool for serious wax removal than the drops, and it's even cheaper than a bottle of drops. I don't understand why the big drugstores aren't carrying these on the shelves yet. I plan to order two or three more.

Very happy with product
I have had chronic problems with my ears since I was a child. I stopped having problems for a few years, but in my late teens and as an adult I tend to find that I get chronic buildup and frequent infections especially following any kind of sore throat/head cold/allergy type situations. The last few years, I've dealt with it by using things like Debrox drops and the included ear bulb and a heating pad, but I felt like I never really got results with the ear bulb by itself and I have concerns about putting the drops in my ears as much as I was. After seeing a few "ear wash" videos online, I considered getting an elephant ear washer but I just couldn't bring myself to pay $30+ for what appears to essentially be a glorified spray bottle. I also had concerns about the direct spray and my eardrums. This seemed like a nice, relatively cheap compromise because I spend more than what I paid for this on tons of other useless crap on a regular basis. Everything arrived as described. Per the instructions other reviewers have posted, I put Debrox drops in one ear first and waited before attempting to flush with water. On the first try, I only used drops in one ear. The water I used in the ear with the drops was a bit too cool as I did experience a bit of lightheadedness that I did not experience later when flushing the other ear with warmer water. The ear I used the drops in did not have as much stuff when I flushed them as the ear I did not use drops in. The drops actually seemed to irritate the inside of my ears a little, causing drainage problems and I was a bit uncomfortable when I flushed them. Overall, I actually really like this thing. As I stated before, using the drops seemed to irritate the inside of my ears and made the product less effective for me. I think I'm going to try to use this product without the drops for awhile. Warm water is essential because using water that is too hot or too cool will cause lightheadedness. As other reviewers have noted, it is a bit of a pain to keep filling it up and squirting it in. It doesn't hold much water, but I refuse to take off stars for that because I knew how large it was when I purchased it. It can be a little awkward to use because you have to push the plunger in while holding it in your ear. I imagine it is probably a little hard for some people to get the right angle to squirt in the right place. I actually struggled with this a little bit but feel that the results overall are worth it once I figured things out. I'm definitely happy with the purchase and plan to keep using it. I'm also considering buying more for others in my family who have similar issues.

It wasn't the greatest but it preformed well enough to dislodge the ear ...
I occasionally have mild psoriasis in my ear canals that causes skin flakes to drop into the ear canal resulting in buildup (3 or so times per year). I've had the Health Enterprises Ear Wax Removal Syringe for a year but I only used it about 4 times before it broke (plunger). It wasn't the greatest but it preformed well enough to dislodge the ear wax. The tip is kind of uncomfortable (pokey?) but it works well enough. The problem with the unit is that it's too small resulting in the user having to push the plunger too hard to get enough pressure and steady flow to dislodge anything. Since you have to push too hard the plunger will eventually break due to flawed design in my opinion. The flaw (beside being too small) in the unit is that the plastic near the plunger seal (look at the picture between 5 and 10 ml really closely) is smaller than the rest of the plunger. Since it's too small(barrel that holds solution) it forces the user to pull the plunger seal near the edge of the barrel and then push too hard. Eventually that piece that is smaller than the rest of the plunger will break/snap. If you read the review you'll see a lot of "it was ok until it snapped". Like I said it's ok and will work decent for most. Also you need to have reasonable expectations. If you have impacted ear wax it won't always just be a couple of squirts problem solved. You might have to have a couple of sessions before your impacted wax has loosen. It's really a disposable product but the price doesn't reflect that in my opinion. If they were only a couple dollars I think it's flaws would be acceptable.

Almost as good as the doctor's office!
I am a high ear wax producing person and every few years my ears get clogged and I can't hear. This used to require a doctor's appointment, but I gave this 5 dollar syringe a try and it worked perfectly. I had an appointment scheduled for an ear that was completely blocked and I couldn't hear at all from it. I flushed it out with some ear wax treatment and this syringe, and when I got into the office for them to take a look, the blocked ear was completely cleared and required no cleaning. My other unblocked ear was filled to the point that they were surprised I could hear from it and they cleaned that one out. Use: Soak your ear for 5 minutes with a good quality ear wax solution. Major Ear Drops worked great which the doctor's office provided to me. This syringe puts out a surprisingly high pressure stream that is aimed in a manner which doesn't squirt directly at the ear drum, yet still manages to dislodge large amounts of ear wax. I really hammered down on the syringe, which might scare some people who are jamming fluid into the side of their head, but the harder you press, the fewer flushes you will need. I used a warm/borderline hot cup of water and flushed my ear perhaps a dozen times. Some people mentioned using peroxide, but the ear drops and hot water were all that I needed. Note: It is easier to fill the syringe by removing the tip before you draw water into it and then replacing the tip to operate. You probably will get a lot of water rolling down the side of your face and neck so have a towel on your shoulder while you are flushing. It felt like a mini-hurricane in my ear when I jammed down on the syringe, but it reminded me of the same type of pressure that I would get from a professional ear cleaning done at the doctor's office. Of course, this instrument isn't as convenient as a professional tool because of it's small water capacity, but it really works. Just be brave and squeeze the syringe as rough as you can!

Outstanding Product
I bought one of these a couple of months or more ago in the desperation of trying to find a way that I could take care of recurrent build up of ear wax, mainly in my left ear as I was having to go a doctor 3 or more times a year to get this done. I could NOT be happier! This is hands down one of the best purchases I ever made in my life. Out of 5 stars I would rate this product to be worth at least 9. Even the doctors - and I have been to several different ones for this problem - often had a significant challenge getting my ears cleared of wax due to my unusually small and contorted ear canal. But this tool does as good or better job as the best doctor I have ever gone to and with relative ease. Also, unlike the treatments given to me by some doctors, this syringe does NOT cause pain or concern of causing any ear drum damage when I use it. And it is VERY thorough. I first soak my ear in hydrogen peroxide applied with an eye dropper. I allow the peroxide to fizz for around 10 - 15 minutes while lying down with the affected ear up. Then I use warm water (not over 100ยบ F) in the syringe squirting it full force into the ear with the ear facing at downward angle over the bathroom sink. The water stream does NOT impinge directly on the eardrum, but on the walls of the ear canal flushing away all of the loosened wax, including any that may be directly on the ear drum, since the syringe action causes a very effective swirling action across the ear drum without putting uncomfortable or dangerous pressure on that very fragile membrane. It is usually necessary (for me at lest) to repeat the process of soaking and flushing 2 or 3 times. Each flush is done with 3 or 4 full syringes of warm water. And the result is clear ears with NO irritation to the ear canal or eardrum. Bottom line: a very well designed tool, and worth more than the $5 price you see here!

After All I've Tried, this is the ONLY thing that actually WORKED!!
Last year my left ear felt clogged. It was the same sensation as when you have water trapped in your ear. I went to an ear doctor and he used a very powerful vacuum to suck out hard wax that was deep inside the canal resting right up against the eardrum. The vacuum was so powerful that I thought to myself "this piercing vacuum sound and the extreme vacuum force must be inflicting some damage to my eardrum!"; but this guy was an MD, so I trusted everything would be fine. My ear returned to normal hours later, but man, you should have seen the bill. Typical sky high USA medical system gouging. But that's a completely different review. Now, a year later, same thing. Difficulty hearing out of the left ear. Feels like water trapped inside. This time I searched online for an inexpensive alternative. I tried everything: hydrogen peroxide, vinegar, warm olive oil, mixtures of each. Room temp, warmed up, different exposure times, multiple rounds; you name it. The hydrogen peroxide seemed especially promising as I could hear and feel it bubbling away while imagining the wax disintegrating into thousands of microscopic pieces. Then, with all of these treatments, after a couple hours... still clogged. "Maybe its something more serious" I wondered out loud. I was about to give up and go shell out hundreds of dollars to an MD, but came across this syringe device on Amazon. It is 6X less expensive than the cost of a spray bottle that employs the same strategy: high pressure irrigation through a customized nozzle. I also added Debrox to the order in a final fit of desperation. They both arrived today and I went at it immediately. I put 5 drops of Debrox in my ear for 5 minutes, then ran tap water until it was warm, filled the syringe with warm water, carefully seated the syringe nozzle in my ear canal (slowly, don't want a punctured eardrum), pushed on the syringe piston as hard and fast as I could, each time seeing some small wax chunks irrigate out. The fourth round produced an enormous chunk of wax. I was ecstatic, even though my spouse said it was disgusting. I 100% recommend this product as an inexpensive and effective way to remove difficult-to-clear inner ear wax occlusions. I would try with warm water alone first, not pretreating with wax softeners (H2O2, Vinegar, Oil, Debrox, etc). Repeat the irrigation at least 8 to 10 times before you decide to pretreat and soften hard wax that is difficult to dislodge.
