An Amazing Trip through a Wonderland You'll Never Forget
Alice: Madness Returns is one of the few games that I really enjoyed playing. It had the vibe of old-school arcades, the graphics of fantasy worlds unknown and all of this - based on the evergreen story of a girl who ends up in a world of her own make where something is not that great. When it comes to this original story... I was into it totally. The psychiatric scenes and the "real-life" line were fulfilling and managed to keep me interested, even though there are not much action to be done in there. Well, the plot twist was obvious for me from the very start, but it's not a whodunnit title anyway. The gameplay is really enjoyable. It has all a fan of non-shooting actions would like - many keys to use, full control over Alice's actions and several twists such as her becoming a giant where movements are in fact influenced by her big body. For all who are wondering about purchasing this game: If you enjoy the genre, buy it.

Good game but EA and Spicy Horse let it down a bit
Oh wow ... What a game. If you played the original American McGee`s Alice, you`ve got to play this one.As you`d expect, the graphics are so much more fluid and, after levelling them up, the weaponary is a lot stronger although the controls are a little different so you`ll have to get used to them but once mastered, you`ll really enjoy it.In the normal gameplay, Alice gets a new dress after each level completed which gives you the option of swapping around but (unless you fiddle with the .inf files) you won`t get the total of six until you`ve finished the game at which point, you can re-play it with a full wardrobe and in case anyone`s wondering, stripey tights are the order of the day except for the water dress which sees her barefoot. There is a downside to this version though and that is the bugs. No, not the caterpillar or even the flying beetles that drop something suspiciously explosive on her head but the game bugs and if you find something not working as it should do and then `Google` it, you`ll find that a lot of people in a lot of forums have the same gripe but if you`re confident enough to mess about with the .inf files, there are plenty of guys out there with solutions to whatever difficulty you come across ... It`s just a shame that EA and Spicy Horse haven`t cottoned on to it and patched the game accordingly. The concept of the game is brilliant and for the money it`s worth giving it a go even if you hadn`t been captivated by the original version as long as you`re aware that it`s sometimes a bit buggy although most problems can be solved with some in-depth researching. For the male population out there the answer is yes, you can get quite a few other dresses for Alice but you`ll have to work out how for yourselves ;-)

Release date check failed- useless!
I was really excited to play this game- I'm not a big gamer and I don't usually buy games but after watching some footage of this one online I decided to make an exception as it looked so great!I'm sure the actual game is good, but unfortunately my PC didn't get as far as loading the it as it failed to complete the release date check. No matter what I did it just would not complete it, it kept saying error. Having read up a bit online about it, this seems to be a common problem that EA has just not solved! It's really annoying especially as, like I said, I don't often buy games, and ok it's not a huge amount of money but it's ยฃ6.70 wasted (and being a student I don't really have money to burn!)Don't buy this if you want to play it on your PC, you probably won't get very far.

The controls make it almost impossible to play this on a laptop/PC.
I'm sure it's a great game, but seeing as I bought it for PC, the controls are a bit crazy. The camera is out of control, and it is very difficult to make Alice attack on a keyboard. I get the feeling that this would be much easier to play with an xbox controller, or something similar. The game also lagged quite a lot when I first played it, but after a few minutes of research on google, I soon fixed it, and it does not lag as much anymore. Again, I'm sure it's a really good game, and I was really looking forward to playing it, but the controls just make it extremely frustrating, and I have rage quitted many times because they just refuse to work. I will try and play this again with a joystick controller, and hopefully that will be easier than using a keyboard.

Boring...
I know this is now an older game but I bought it recently looking for something different to play - the graphics are great, I love the dark spin on wonderland...BUT this game is really really boring...just lots of jumping between platforms and shooting at bad guys, it gets really repetitive really quickly and I've given up playing about 20% in as it's got so dull...

Stunning physics
First, the tech bit: I'm running on an FX-4100 with a GTX 260 and I can play this game in 1920x1200 with everything set to high. The pace is a bit slower going than the original American McGee's, but I think that the physics help to make up. For example, bits of paper will scutter around as you run through it. Alice's character design is graphically detailed, roughly on par with a Sims 3 character. The only downside is that the controls, while still being WASD-based, takes some getting used to! If you go into the keyboard settings though, you can switch it for a joypad and control using that. I find that joypad is easier.
