Student drama triple bill. In 'The Craft', Sarah (Robin Tunney) has just moved to L.A. and started a new school. Feeling alienated by her new surroundings she takes up with Nancy, Bonnie and Rochelle, who have distinctive black lipstick and nails. It transpires that they have recently been dabbling in the occult, and with Sarah their union becomes more powerful. As they learn witchcraft, they become powerful enough to punish their enemies at school and make their dreams come true. In 'Flatliners', a Chicago medical student (Kiefer Sutherland), fascinated with the experiences of people who have had near-death experiences, decides to try it himself. In secret, his colleagues put him under anaesthetic, stop his heart and then bring him back to life. As each of them try it in turn, their memories of their time in limbo invade their waking life, both as vivid hallucinations and as spurs to make them rectify past mistakes. In 'Heathers', the titular club is made up of the prettiest, snottiest, cliquiest girls at school, always poking fun at social inadequates. New member Veronica (Winona Ryder) gets sick of doing the Heathers' bidding and plots a drastic revenge on the elitist gang, with the help of an anarchic town newcomer (Christian Slater). Soon Veronica's teen angst has resulted in a huge body-count.

Not a Pleasant Experience if you Don't Like Snakes!
For myself, this film is an indulgence - you know, one of those cinematic experiences you want to repeat, revisit, refresh every year or so. The new girl in the neighborhood with no particular problems (except her phobia for snakes) who just happens to be a witch...Add in a typical high school, attended by a trio of typical goths led by a trailer-trash psycho who is obsessed with the dark arts and you have a perfectly simple 'triumph of virtue' plot which is beautifully directed and acted well. If you are fascinated by witchcraft (as am I) or if you want to see another reinforcement of America's justification of their class structure, this movie is for you.

Not as good as I remembered
Remember loving this as a teen in the 90s so we watched again with our now teen daughter. She's loved magic since her younger Harry Potter days and says she loved this film too. Watching it with parent eyes... there are sexual references, attempted rape, images of self harm, racism, bullying, domestic violence, misogyny, mental health, underage drinking and smoking - so lots of talking points. I'd recommend for teens and up but of course depends on the maturity of your child. In terms of plot... it was all over the place. A bit like this review.

Todo un clásico por fin restaurado en 4K!
Jóvenes Brujas o The Craft es una de mis películas favoritas de los años 90's, y cuando me enteré que Shout Factory la había restaurado en formato UHD 4K, la compré de inmediato. Se ve mejor que nunca, super definida y con bonito grano filmico. Trae Slipcover de colección y llegó en excelentes condiciones

Heftiger dan ik me herinner
Ik heb deze film voor het eerst gewoon op TV gezien in de jaren 90 toen ik nog op de middelbare school zat. De film bleef gelijk in mijn geheugen hangen, maar tegelijkertijd is de verhaallijn ook weer een beetje uit mijn geheugen verdwenen. De dame met de zwarte lipstick is als karakter veel aardiger in mijn geheugen bijjven hangen dan ze daadwerkelijk was.Tussen de film en wat ik om me heen te zien heb gekregen zitten nu dusdanig veel aanknopingspunten, dat het realiteitsgehalte van de film drastisch toegenomen is. De persoonlijke problemen van de dames komen harder binnen. Toen ik op school zat keek ik het meer als pure fictie en nu drastisch minder, alhoewel het verhaal wel verzonnen is natuurlijk.Het is een hele goede film met zeer realistische onderlagen. De uitbeelding van het verhaal is op zijn zachtst gezegd gewaagd te noemen qua visueel realisme en het geweld dat ze zichzelf en anderen aandoen. Interessant punt is dat het advies aan een van de karakters was om de kracht in zichzelf te zoeken, waarbij ze toch de fout maakt deze van buiten te zoeken en tot zich te nemen.

Me encanto la película, se notan esos detalles que antes pasaban desapercibidos, lamentablemente no tiene subtítulos al español en la versión 4K, fuera de eso, todo muy bien!!
