John BoosWALKCT-BL7230-O Blended Walnut Island Top with Oil Finish, 1.5" Thickness, 72" x 30"

I was skeptical ordering this from Amazon because of the sparse reviews, but I had to take a chance because of the Prime delivery and the phenomenal price. It arrived yesterday and WOW, it is beautiful. One side had a few blemishes, but I didn't panic because someone else pointed out that there is a presentation side and a back side. The presentation side is perfect. My wife almost cried because of how nice it looks. I planned on cutting it down to 48inches and keeping the scrap as a portable cutting board and then also easing the edges, but it is so nice I don't want to even touch it. The prompt delivery and price was the true draw. Nobody could get it to me within 4 weeks and this arrived in time for the holidays. The price was much lower than many of the big suppliers so I was prepared to return if it was a blemished or less than perfect product, but it is awesome and we are extremely pleased. The John Boos products get very good reviews all over the internet so I knew I was going with a good company, I am stoked that there was a supplier utilizing Amazon Prime. Thank you very much.

The packaging is sub-par when considering that this 72"x30" board weights 85 Lb. The box had no padding at all besides 1" Styrofoam at the top and bottom edges, and nothing on the other edges. The butcher block had one of the longitudinal piece broken over 5", multiple dents on the edges, one corner chipped off. To be noted as well, the board had multiple translucent "fillers", one of those material they use on defects such as a wood node. The fillers were well made but unsightly for a table top. This came as a surprise as I saw other John Boos Walnut butcher blocks in person and they are stunning. I returned it due to the multiple dents and broken parts. I did not order another one as the first one took 5 to 6 more weeks to arrive and I could not wait that long a second time. It is a pity as the wood grain was nice looking otherwise, but very much not worth the experience of shipping multiple times.

I am using this as a tabletop rather than a counter/ island. This is a very good looking block of wood especially after applying the mystery oil and wax, but....The edge was chipped in a few places, possibly due to the thin layer of protection inside the cardboard shipment box( I did not see any visible damage on the box)The edges were not evenly finished and had blemishes and makes me wonder if these blocks sold through Amazon are factory seconds from John Boos?Decided to keep this nevertheless, as the shipping to return and replace would have taken multiple weeks and I need a desk to work.

Unfortunately, I also experienced damage with the one I purchased. The shipping was fast and packaging was not too great, but mine had a 4" long groove about 2cm deep as well as a round blotch of unstained wood. I decided to return the unit given how expensive it was and the craftsmanship delivered. No idea how this passed quality inspection.

I absolutely love it. Only 4 stars because the box that it came in had nearly zero padding and as a result there were a couple minor dents on the edges.My counter top has a few spacers in it as well, though they are thankfully only on one side.

While the shipping issues seem to have been fixed by double boxing the butcher block, I was not happy with the quality. Mine arrived with blatant cracks where there should have obviously been some wood putty but none was present. Other cracks had spots where you could tell the wood putty had partially fallen out.I am returning this and going with a different (but more expensive) brand.

Edges were unblemished, but I did have a small chip in the center on the top of the counter. Since I am using this for a desk, I applied filler and clear coated. If I were intending to use this for a food safe surface, I would be more upset.

Nice product but was damaged during shipping so had to return. Would think based on other reviews that they would have learned that the shipping method they are using isn’t working.
