Charcoal Companion Black Chimney Charcoal Starter

I've seen some reviews of people complaining about the color changing after first use, from our experience, all chimneys do! We have used many over the years, you can't get around that, they are under extreme heat. My husband is very happy with his chimney. Especially to have the wood handle back. Our last one was a plastic handle, didn't last as long as the wood handled one before it. This one works just fine! Very happy with it. The color actually looks better after multiple uses than the aluminized ones after one use.

Assembly of handle was required. I found this a bit difficult and I expect it is not as tight as an assembled product that I could have bought at supermarket. I am expecting the handle to fall off sometime this summer and I will not be able to find the tiny screws that were supplied. Good product if it would have came assembled!I am using it for now though and it was good to BBQ today without having to make an extra trip to store to buy a new chimney!!

Very Nice and very good service!

Decided I wanted to cook my husband a steak sometime when he is tired or it's too cold to uncover the big grill in the winter. So, I bought a tabletop hibachi Smoky Joe grill and this charcoal companion. It was so easy to use, just put a little newspaper in the bottom, lit it, went back inside and 15 minutes later, the coals were nice and ready. Poured them into the table top grill and cooked the steaks to perfection. Didn't have to go out in the cold for long as I observed the cooking from the deck door. Great for quick and easy winter use when you don't want to use the big grill which is used in the summer. Also would be good for apartment patios.

Much better than that thing Weber is selling with the plastic handle. I use lump charcoal and the Weber product was unusable without a thick glove. I don't want to bother with using a glove... my previous chimney had a wood handle and I could use it without a glove. This one also has a wood handle and works great without a glove. Gave the Weber away.. waste of money. This is much better at less than half the price. Probably won't last half as long as the Weber which was built like a tank, but who cares... can buy twice as many of these for the same price.

I bought this for my husband. When he opened the box up the bolts and nuts for the handle and plate were missing and there was a dent on side of chimney. Looks like it was a returned item. He had to find bolts and nuts himself to attach handle and plate. We are both very disappointed. Let the buyer beware.

Larger than I expected, you could probably fit half a small bag of charcoal in this thing. I've used it only a couple times and it does work great. Just make sure you let the charcoals roast a bit and turn gray before dumping them; I've dumped the charcoal out too soon a few times already.

very simple to use. shortens the time it takes for charcoal to get hot. the wood handle is much better than the plastic ones

Can't get it to light my bbq

A far as charcoal chimneys go it works great. I do wish it was a bit bigger for when I'm having a larger bbq, but for cooking family suppers it's fine. Just a warning that it won't stay black. After the first use there will be a wide grey ring around the middle of it. But honestly, I didn't buy this to look pretty anyway. I bought this because its a simple device and this was the cheapest option. And I'm really glad I bought this. It was cheap, works as good as any other chimney would, and these chimneys are a must for anyone using a charcoal grill.

Works just fine. The instructions suggest burning a couple of sheets of paper underneath but that didn't work so well so I added a piece of non-laminated cardboard and voila. Charcoal gets lit with no difficulties...

Been using it for more than a year. Regular wear and tear. Works well. Wooden handle will not melt when the chimney gets smoking hot!
