*This review is for The Criterion Collection release*This movie ranks as one of the finest films of the 60s, and features stellar performances from the best in the biz at that time. Criterion does a wonderful job on all of their releases, and this one is no exception. They curate films with the movie fan and collector in mind. This release features an excellent disc that includes a crisp, clear picture and well-balanced audio; several bonus featurettes; original cover art; and a comprehensive essay on the film and cast, which also features more original artwork throughout. Disc and essay booklet are housed in one of those sturdy, heavy duty cases Criterion is known for. You can't go wrong with The Criterion Collection releases, and I highly recommend this one- especially if you're a serious collector of fine cinema.

Each of its 5 Oscars is well deserved from a field of other classic movies. The mood of this movie is surreal though very true to life and draws you down deep into the story.

Criterion Collection did an amazing job on this film. I actually prefer this 2K standard hi-def to the recently released 4k version of which I also own. The 4k version is no slouch in picture quality either but there is just something about the criterion version's picture quality that I like better.

During the 1960's America was so divided , but this is a reflection of all men are created equal ,even two law enforcement Officers of Different backgrounds and race who wanted Justice Sydney and Rod ,great Actors

This deservedly won the Best Picture Oscar of 1967. Rod Steiger's performance is matched by Sidney Poitier's(who could of easily won, also). Criterion's expertise in presenting a cinema-like quality to it's blu-rays is well documented, and it's on display here. How interesting it is that this year's winning Best Picture - "Green Book" - delves into race relations.

Fantastic film & presentation. Script, directing, cinematography & music...absolutely essential viewing.And yes, you do feel the heat. Watched it here in Stockholm on Christmas Day, and almost felt the need for AC...

This is a film I have been wanting in my collection for sometime. Absolutely loved it and being on the Criterion label, what more can you ask for.

Nothing to dislike, this movie is hard hitting and just great all round. I watch it again and again ! That's rare, becauseI rarely do that with a movie. This film is pure genius, and ahead of it's time ! I'll bet that Sidney Poitier was happyto make such a " social statement". Rod Steiger played his role "brilliantly" and showed how the Sheriff evolved andVirgil Tibbs earned respect as he was clearly the "number one homicide detective"!
