The Ultimate Shooting Skills Manual: 212 Essential Range and Field Skills (Outdoor Life)
M**.
Excellent intro/overview into Shooting. Light on exhaustive details, heavy on visuals.
If you are expecting a fully comprehensive manual, this isn't it. That is what the book title infers, but I assume they are expecting the shooting community to be smarter than the average idiot of our society who is looking to be offended. This book is an excellent overview or introduction into a wide variety of shooting/hunting sports. It has a wide range of useful, if brief information on a lot of topics. Lots of historical infographics and gear photos make it very easy to read and re-read.If you are new to shooting or just like to pique your interest into parts of the shooting world you've never examined, this is the book for you. I really enjoyed it for the first 30 minutes I read through it before I wrote this review. I plan to read every word eventually. Do I know a lot of it already? yes. Did I learn something already that I was always curious about? Yes.If, however, you are a know-it-all gun snob who just can't stop running down anyone who didn't pay at least 10K for their precision rifle...you may want to look elsewhere. Unless you can choke back your elitism and actually look for information you might not have already known. That may be asking too much. I have several of the Outdoor Life book series. This one is a good one to add to your collection.Summary: if an very visual, well illustrated overview of shooting sports is interesting to you, you will enjoy this book.

Really for absolute beginners
This book is full of little tidbits that are all very basic. If you know absolutely nothing about guns, this might be useful, but you can get the same information anywhere online for free. The entire book is like the small bits used to take up space in magazines like Field and Stream. Very disappointing. I would have given it one star, but this book has metal edges to preserve the covers' corners - you have to give credit where due!

Awesome training aid.
Full of useful knowledge and tips to improve a shooter's performance. It brings the reader/ shooter into the next level of skill and clearly expresses the message into easily translated understanding. The book has many pictures to aid you and clarifies many concepts. It is all expressed in an easy to understand platform and covers most all types and directions a shooter or hunter may want to cover; hunting, tactical, target, competition and self defense. It also begins into gear and equipment selection and encourages further education and safety.

All sections are broke down into bits a pieces of information you can follow and get the most out of.
I am more long range rifle oriented. So in my case I really would have loved more detail on that subject.I'm not much of a AR type of fan. So for me that was not my speed.

Not a lot of depth, lots of breadth
Not a lot of depth, but lots of breadth. It is perfect for me, but maybe not great for guys that live and breath guns. Good if you are starting your gun education.

... that will provide plenty of go to information and good drill. Unfortunately
Well written book that will provide plenty of go to information and good drill. Unfortunately, not as many drills I was hoping for.

Feels like someone stitched together a bunch of magazine articles
This was one of the most simplistic "manuals" I've ever bought. Got it for a trip to Mexico, and did manage to get through it cover to cover. Feels like someone stitched together a bunch of magazine articles, in that it would go from gun reviews to a history lesson, to basic rudimentary drills to suggestions like "take a rifle course". I would have given this a 2 star except for the asinine "ULTIMATE" they stuck on the cover. "BASIC" "MARGINAL" "MEDIOCRE" are much more accurate titles.

An excellent read.
An excellent read. Obviously aimed at the American market, but the principles of shooting are international, so apart from a long section all about the AR15 variants which wasn't very relevant to me in the UK, this was a really good and interesting read. I particularly liked the breakdown of the developments and attributes of various calibres. Worth keeping as a reference for the future too.
