Where the Wild things Are (Hebrew) (Hebrew Edition)

To be honest, I did not buy this book because I wanted to read the words in Hebrew - I bought it because I wanted to see what it looked like in a reversed format. As you can see, the picture on the front cover is a mirror image of the English edition. I have read that picturebooks translated into Hebrew (because of the textual direction) have all their pictures reversed. Failure to do this, it is argued, creates a conflict between the visual and verbal directions. So, I wanted to see what it looked like. Actually, the pictures inside the book are not reversed - they are the same as the pictures for the English version, except that they have been moved so that the pictures and text have the same physical sequence as in the English (meaning that if it is text followed by picture, left to right, in English, then it is text followed by picture, right-to-left, in Hebrew). I would be very interested if any Hebrew readers could comment on whether there is any strangeness of feeling, if the visual and verbal seem to conflict, or if Hebrew readers are used to this way of translating picturebooks.Of course, the pictures are still marvellous, and the story, however it is translated, is probably still marvellous, so if you read Hebrew (which unfortunately, I can't), this is almost certainly still a great book.

This book is just beautiful. I ordered it for my young-adult nephew. Packed well and on-time! Highly recommended!

The storyline -at this point- is fairly well known. What is striking about this book is Sendek's pictures, which are superb. Translation is fine and execution is nice (though I must be honest, the binding could have been done better. Not sure how long it will last once my daughter starts reading it herself).

Perfect gift for the holidays.

Very well known book translated well into Hebrew.
