I Give to You

Nice story, made me laugh and cry....
Made me laugh and cry at the same time. It was a very nice story, although like many have said before, felt like it was a snippet of a much larger story. The main character falls in love very quickly, why is why it seems rushed. But I can actually relate to that lol. Read the book in less than 2 hours. Had to know what happens next. Overall the drawings were very nice, and the story is bittersweet, but definitely recommend it for your yaoi collection. No hardcore sex here, which honestly felt right.

I Give you a Review
I braved this and all in all the story line is a winner but it depends on your mood an can be seen as so -so the art is rather good .The main charrie is quite likable and the story centers around his love interests problems .A well played out plot and well worth reading.

Quiet, zen-like BL title which needed further development
I Give To You is a classic example of the difference between US-style GNs and Japanese ones, with incredibly slow pacing, and a proliferation of moment-to-moment panel transitions, in which nothing very much happens. The book is a single story, told over six chapters, about Ryoichi, who is running away from life, and Ren, who mananages a tea shop, and takes Ryoichi in. The narrative is straightforward and direct, as Ryoichi settles in to the neighbourhood and learns more about Ren.The art is competent at communicating the storyline, without bringing that extra something that makes a graphic novel haunting and beautiful. The artwork also suffers from the small page size: the opening panels are visually very crowded, and although this does reflect the emotional state of the character, I'm not convinced this is deliberate, as the same visual crush appears on too many pages without any specific relevance. If anything, such a sparse and quiet novel needed more white space on the page for the work to feel poetic and simple. I also found the occasional moment of slapstick sound-effect-based humour intrusive. A few effective pages show the potential the mangaka has for creating beautiful work, and at it's best the art is somewhat reminiscent of Dog Style.I found the story itself unsatisfying. The pacing was uneven and the resolution seemed rushed. For the first third of the book I was intrigued by the characters, and very happy to settle into the slow rhythym of the story. Towards the middle the lack of sympathy between the narrative and the artwork started to grate with me, and the storyline and Ryoichi's interior thoughts seemed both repetitive and strained. Better editing here would have helped. In the afterword the mangaka states they changed Ren's character halfway through without telling their editor, and this might contribute to some of the disconnection I felt in the playing out of the story.I did find the developing relationship between Ryoichi and Ren well done. It is very Japanese; signalled by what is unsaid, rather than by actions on either side. The is BL, not yaoi: there is no sex depicted, although it is implied by two characters shown sleeping under bedclothes together, and there are several m/m kisses. This is not a GN to buy for a quick erotic fix, although as a piece to round out a yaoi collection it has some interesting features.Overall it was OK: I found the novel lacked both charm and poignancy (particularly compared to a similar work like Men Of Tattoos).EDIT: 18 August 2011. After some thought I've changed my rating from 2 stars to 4 stars. My comments stand: the art often isn't great, and the resolution is rushed. However my original low rating was unfair, because I was rating it on what it missed out on, rather than what it achieved. I felt the novel could have been fantastic if the pacing problems were ironed out, and the art made more sympathetic to the story. However, giving this 2-stars was way harsher than it deserves (also because in the Goodreads rating 2-stars means "I liked it" and on Amazon it means "I didn't like it"). And the novel does have charm; it just could have been so much better.

Great start, but I want more.
This was a nice sweet manga about a boy who wanders into a tea shop and stays...only to fall in love with the owner who is supposed to be an ex-gang member. For those of you looking for a sweet beginning book, this will appeal to you. However, the relationship doesn't really go anywhere. The artist is good and the story is a nice starting off point, but I just wish there was more to it. These characters need their story to continue and unfortunately, this looks like the only volume.

A Relaxed Read
This was an average enough manga with a relationship between two men who have been shunned by the people they loved and who they thought loved them in return.I especially loved the art style. It is much more contemporary than older manga styles and the bodies and faces more proportional and less linear. There a few parts that felt incomplete by the end of the book - like why one of the characters left his Ykuza family roots to run a tea house and what happened to the ex-lover that was sent to jail? It felt too abrupt and neat of an ending and I would have loved to know what happened to them.

A Charming Story
I liked the story. I enjoyed watching how the characters developed. The story is unique and different from the usual yaoi mangas. It was also funny, too. However, I found the ending was kinda rushed. It left me an unsatisfied feeling. The story was good and charming, but the mangaka could had made it much better with the ending. Overall, I recommend this story and not regretting buying it. I had a nice time reading this story and I think you will, too.
