Snow Place Like Home (Diary of an Ice Princess #1) (1)

My daughter who just turned 7 enjoyed reading this with me. We alternated reading chapters to each other. She really loves the "Last Firehawk" series, and this was just slightly more challenging vocabulary and sentence structure than that series. I appreciated that the protagonist is a princess with magical powers who is also very interested in science and being a good friend. I do not like my young kids to read books that focus on a lot of social drama between friend groups (such as "The Catfish Club" book in the Purrmaids series). The Ice Princess book had just a teeny bit of bullying that occurred in one chapter, but social drama was not a main part of the story. I recommend this book for beginning readers who enjoy books from Scholastic's Branches series and are ready to try something just a bit more challenging.

I was looking for an interesting book for my 2nd grader who is a reluctant reader. She loved this book and plowed through it in two days.
