Q: if im 5'9 and weight 170, size medium is the correct model?

i'm a little taller & heavier than you. hockey jerseys should, IMHO, always be big so i personally would go with a large. depends on what you're planning on doing in it. it's my top layer when i ski so i have an xl.

Q: Is this a loose fit, to be worn over actual hockey gear; or do the sizes run more like "normal" clothes?

Fits like normal clothes. I am 6 foot and usually order medium sizes for hockey jerseys.... that size fits great for me not too loose not tight.

Q: is gonna be good for kid, 20 years old (big boy)? what size should i take?

It’s the real deal Jersey, I am just under 200lbs, the sleeves are long if not worn with equipment as you can imagine! The rest fits perfect! My cousin plays with those guy’s and says it looks sharp! It’s simply awesome, and the colors are sharp! Has the inside strap to attach to the equipment! I have it upstairs, forget what size I got! Hit me back after you get this if you need the size I got!
