Excellent bread knife
Works perfectly and looks great. Got this after cutting my finger pretty bread with my normal bread knife(and almost cutting it many times) the design of this knife seems to be very stable and I barely need to hold on to the loaf to get a perfect slice(unlike my old bread knife where I pretty much had to squeeze the loaf to get a decent slice) fits with extreme ease through crustier loaves(like the round loaf pictured) and doesn’t smoosh softer loaves (like the extremely soft garlic and herb loaf also pictured) it’s also very nice looking and feels very well made

I LOVE this knife
Santa (me) brought this knife for Christmas. I sometimes make my own bread and my "bread knife" just wasn't cutting it. I had a plastic slicing guide (box thingy with the slats in), but after only a few uses a piece on it broke and I had to try to hold the bread AND the side of the slicing guide with one hand, while slicing with the other. If you've ever made homemade bread, you can imagine what a challenge this was. Even before the guide broke, my bread knife still would smush the bread, the slats would move, and I would not get even slices. So along comes the Bread and Bagel Slicer. The first time I used it, it was amazing and I fell in love. It slices right through without smushing the bread. I did it quickly, easily, and without a guide. The slices were much more even, and I was able to slice as thinly as I liked. It works great with bagels, too, and looks lovely. As for other reviewers' problems, if they had read previous reviews or looked at the picture, they should have known the handle was not a guide for slicing. This knife doesn't provide a guide, but I found that I don't really need one, unless absolute perfection is required (not at my house!). I don't see how you could cut yourself any easier with this knife than any other. My other bread knife is larger and seems much more dangerous. You have to be careful with it as with any other knife and keep your hand out of the way, and when washing. For lefties, just undo the screws and turn the blade the other way, or order the left-handed one.My only drawbacks are the sideways slicing, which takes some getting used to but may be what makes it work better. And when you slice a loaf of bread, the frame of the knife gets in the way and you have to keep lifting it up above the bread to move the already-cut slices out of the way instead of just letting them fall in place and moving your knife more quickly along the loaf. HOWEVER, with the amazing way this knife slices compared to anything else I've used, I will deal with it.Really, it slices through bread like butter, quickly and easily, no smooshing. It never gets put away because I use it every day. If you only bake bread once every few years, it may not be worth the investment, but if you've been frustrated trying to slice bread and you bake once a year or more, I highly recommend this knife. Wooden slicing guides are expensive, and you still need a good knife. Plastic slicing guides are unstable, get scratched (releasing plastic into your food) and break. This may be expensive as far as knives go, but cheaper than the other options. I'm crossing my fingers that it will last for many years.

Great bread slicer, Sharp, Easy to use
My bread knife was not doing as good a job cutting as I desired. I began looking for a bread cutter to slice soughdough and other breads. After researching several, I ordered this one and am happy. It is sharp! I lightly cut my finger when I was checking it out. Totally on me for not being careful. I like the length which gives some stability and can cut through the entire loaf more easily. It seems easier to cut more even slices even though it does not have a guide for that. I did not want anything too cumbersome. It appears well made.

Ingenious design, great cutting action and beautiful to boot!
Out of the Woods has truly come up with a better bread knife! I've had this knife for several years now and love it. The design of the knife is so different, kind of like a cheese slicer that has the wire to cut the cheese. To use this knife it is laid on it's side and with a sawing motion, cuts the bread with the slice coming up between the blade and the wood frame. I find that I can make much more even slices and this is truly an improvement for my slicing. I used to start out doing one thickness and the slice would end up with a very skinny bottom or a very fat bottom. Now I can have a beautiful slice from my beautiful homemade breads.I have my mom's old cutting board that she started house keeping with...we called it the pig board because it's in the shape of a pig. It's got to be over 75 years old now. I lay the bread loaf near piggy's snout which allows me to be able to slice down all the way through the bread. If I slice the bread on a flat surface, I find that I have trouble getting the knife all the way through the bread without hitting the flat surface. This is the only tiny flaw that I can find in the knife's design. No problem with piggy's help. The board allows the frame of the knife to go a smidgen lower than the blade.I keep the pig board hanging on my kitchen wall and the bread knife hanging on top of it thanks to the leather loop the company attached. The board and knife nicely complement each other, making a nice wall adornment and keeping them handy to use.I have never washed the knife as I just wipe it clean with a soft cloth. It stays looking like new. If you make your homemade breads, whether with a bread machine or totally by hand like I do, then this bread knife is indeed for you.

Not worth it
Not worth it. No better than a bread knife. Had it been adjustable it would be better.
