Brilliant Color: Painting Vibrant Outdoor Scenes Paperback – January 15, 2009

I don't think all of the art classes in the world could have done me more good than this book with regard to my painting. I have listened to more blah, blah, blah from so-called teachers than I care to admit, but this woman can actually teach!From the very opening, this book delivered the goods that it promised. In fact, from the author's introduction I got an idea that was worth the price of the book many times. It was an idea about painting that had been brewing in my mind, but that I was unable to find the words for. I paraphrase: The eye may see as a camera does, but the mind's eye sees altered imagined images that it wants and hopes for.This is the whole secret of art- to "trick" the eyes into seeing what the mind's eyes want to see.The author goes on to explain the secrets of how exactly to do this. She does so in an almost mathematical manner so that you really cannot miss it if you give it your effort and time. Nothing vague, nothing ethereal or mystical, just solid information on how to use value, color, and contrast to make you paintings sing with color and impact.For me, the author's words at the introduction were worth the price, but the rest of the book is a treasure of bonuses.

This is a beautiful book with great illustration! At the back of the book she has included line drawings and tells at what enlargement to copy for your paintings. It is very step by step and will most certainly help you succeed in your paintings. I have never worked with oils, but I am going to be taking a beginning oil class. I will then be able to understand and put this book and its techniques to use. I am very pleased with this purchase and would highly recommend this book to others. I would not call it a beginners "how to paint with oils book", but that is not really what I was looking for. I do paint with other mediums and so, I wanted something to work with after I take my beginners class.

I like that the author uses acrylic under-paintings with water mixable oils. Some of her palettes are quite complicated, using many colors instead of relying on three or four. She does show the evolution of some paintings, which is helpful. It doesn't hurt that her paintings are quite lovely.

This book would be worth the price if all you did was look at the gorgeous paintings and their beautiful colors. But the artist/writer of course does more. She explains her methods in detail, then provides 10 detailed demonstrations, specifying the pigments she used for each and also providing narrative on her color thinking.To me, color is the adult sport in art. It's the challenge that awaits you once you gain some skill at drawing, and some understanding of compositional design as well as skill with your medium. Do yourself an artistic favor, and get this book and study these potent color strategies.Highly recommended.

This amazing book is so much more than the usual painating book! It is a new inspiration on every page, a 'sky's-the limit' way of seeing the world, an additional quality of color, joy and LIFE into your paintings! There are many fabulous art books in my library but this one will be very very well used and treasured!This book forces you to Jump Up and Paint with more Joy! Color! Light! and Positive Life Attitude! The very best and most inspiring joy filled book I have purchased! It is a Brilliant Book! I want More Inspiration from Julie Gilbert Pollard!

Took a little longer, 1 week ) than another book I ordered at the same time but the book was great and in what I would describe as new condition

GREAT TIPS ON COLOR AND TECHNIQUES. I AM SURE I WILL BE TRYING AT LEAST ONE DEMO LISTED IN IT BUT WITH A DIFFERENT SUBJECT MATTER. THE WHOLE TRICK TO ALL THESE ART BOOKS IS JUST SIMPLY TO PRACTICE! HOWEVER, ONE MUST HAVE MANY ART BOOKS TO REALLY LEARN IF THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO AFFORD PRIVATE LESSONS WITH A MASTER-PAINTER, THIS IS A GOOD BOOK TO ADD TO YOUR COLLECTION AND LOTS OF VARIOUS ART-LESSONS/IDEAS IN HERE.

The book is in such great shape, I was very pleased. I would not hesitate to purchase another book from this sight. Love this artists work and this book will help with my technique.

I buy how-to-do-it books mostly to see how other artists work, and view their products. If I tell you that the last 5 pages contain ten detailed line drawings of the authoress's demo paintings (from photographs, also reproduced), which you are invited to enlarge appropriately and try for yourself, you will have an idea of the level at which it is aimed. The demos are in both oil and watercolour, most being pure greetings card stuff, but if you are trying just one medium, you may well be tempted by this book to try the other. If, as a beginner, you work carefully through the demos, you will have learned a good bit about painting for impact without needing to learn to draw (although you should)... The cover (an oil) gives a fair view of the authoress's gay and vibrant style. The five stars are entirely for its value to newcomers wanting a quick and (relatively) easy art fix. Not quite painting by numbers, but close...

Motive werden teils von mehreren Fotos zusammen gesetzt.Step by step Anleitungen sehr schön aufgemacht. Punktabzug nur für die fehlende oder von mir überlesene? Deklarierung.
