The most important goal of a manufacturer should be "people want to use it". The Cross of the 1980's built a heavier, solid pen with a smooth action. What I received today looked like a Cross pen but felt like a $5 Chinese knockoff. In my opinion there is no need for this company to exist if they can't produce a premium domestic pen of solid build. It works and it looks like a Cross but it is not the Cross I used to use. This will work for my job so I will keep it but it. I will look elsewhere for a quality pen. A pen is the expression of the soul to the material world. Just no connection here.

Made in China
Sad Cross has started to manufacture in China. I've owned several Cross pens over the years and the down grade in quality is astonishing. The pen is light flimsy and does not inspire the belief that it will last. I hope Cross is happy with their decision, they have done a great disservice to a former American icon

Cheap poor quality
Chrome finish instantly gets finger oil prints, cheap light thin metal, opens and closes rough and terrible.I have Visconti, parker, shaffer, waterman, etc. This is my first cross, and a cheap one at that. You can get a $10 zebra from walgreens/mart and they are much better. If I were cross, I wouldnt even make something this cheap. Its like a cup of flat R.C. cola. You know its not pepsi or coke, but then its flat too? No sir, thats too much.If you want a cheap cheap nice pen, get a zebra. If you want a cheapish designer pen, get a waterman. If you want affordable designer quality, get a schiff or parker. If you want amazing quality and barely reasonable pricing, get a Visconti. If you want top dog, get a Mont Blanc.Bottom line, dont get this.

Buyer Beware, Not classic design
Having owned Cross brand pens before, I could immediately tell the difference in the pens. I bought three pens because I trusted the brand and thought it would be a good buy on Amazon and found that they are not the same pens that I had owned. The classic design has the Cross logo along the top of the pen as indicated on the photos. The pens received have different font for "Cross" on the gold appointment as well as a different design, an X with a small word Cross on lower quadrant and the Cross Logo on the upper quadrant, on the top of the pen. This is not the original classic design, possibly due to being made in China and not made in America. This should be made aware before purchasing. If you're looking for an exact replacement of an American pen, I would look further.

not a solid pen
I had one of these for a long time and it was of better quality. I have two main issues with this pen. One being that it is not as heavy as the previous Cross pen I had. If you are expecting to feel that nice solid weight in your writing hand this is not the pen for you. My second complaint is that I feel that this pen is not of the same craftsmanship as my previous Cross Classic Century pen. The twist mechanism is not not tight enough. What I mean by that is the bottom half of the pen wiggles when you turn it. In my experience Cross Pens are usually solid. Paying 20$ for a pen I expected a more sturdy product. I wish I would have read some of the recent reviews because they all pretty much state the same thing. Not the quality you expect for Cross. Two stars because I don't hate it but I definitely don't like it.

Buyer beware!
I ordered this as a Christmas gift for my father. It seemed nice enough when it came in, packaging, etc.. Just yesterday 2/2 my father called me to let me know that the pen had fallen apart. I looked at it to see if I could fix it and it appears as though the inside of the pen had actually fallen out. I went to the Cross website to send it back for repair (they offer a lifetime warranty) and they wanted a $10 processing fee just to send it back. What a joke! The pen lasted 2 months.

Getting crossed with the Cross Pen
I generally am very pleased with Cross Pen/Pencil Products. I've had this pen (the Cross Classic Century, Lustrous Chrome model) for just over 30 days (which negates the return per Amazon policy) and the inside thread has become dislodged or defective and thus the ballpoint cannot be screwed in which makes the pen useless. I did try to insert a both refills that I also purchased and they would not work - so not a refill issue but rather the pen itself. I am not sure if this is an aftermarket or made outside the USA pen, but it does feel somewhat light and inferior to other Cross Pens I have had in the past (not too far off one of the other reviews I read). Perhaps the low price was an indication and I should have done a bit more diligence! Regardless, the distributor was MegaPen so I would suggest you be cautious if ordering from them.

Massive drop in quality.
I bought this Cross Century as I used to have the exact same model back in the 80s. That one was made in the 70s and given to me by my Dad. Lovely pen to write with. Especially with a fine nib fitted. It was lost in a house move some years ago and I've been thinking of replacing it recently.Due to the quality of the last one I thought I'd purchase the exact same model.Alas, I am sorely disappointed. The build quality is about on par with any cheap metal pen you can pick up from a market for a few quid. The decorating groves don't line up as they did on the old one. The black plastic top end has sharp edges and it's metal rivet is off centre. The refill sleeve is off centre. The packaging is OK but I didn't pay for that. I paid for a quality pen.All in all it's built to price in some Chinese mega factory like almost everything else. It's just built to the price of a £2.00 pen.Put it this way, if this wasn't supplied by Amazon I would say it's a cheap fake.Cross in name only I would say. I'd buy a Paper Mate / Parker instead.Shame.

Review of Amazon Warehouse Deal Version/Experience of Sterling Silver Pen
I purchased this Cross Sterling Silver Century pen as an Amazon Warehouse deal, so I was happy to receive a rather generous discount over both the RRP and the price of a new pen from Amazon. The item was described as having a damaged box/packaging, the outer box is ripped cardboard, the gift box itself also has part of the yellow 'ribbon' coming away at one side. Not a complaint as it was described as such, otherwise the packaging is good. It's a larger box than normal for a single Cross pen, not sure if you buy a new Silver pen if you get this size of box (normally for a twin gift set I would imagine) or the standard single sized box.The pen itself arrived tarnished, slightly more than pictured (pictures were taken after some rubbing with Kitchen roll which didn't remove much). This is a Sterling Silver pen and silver does tarnish, I have compared it next to the far cheaper Chrome Cross Century pen.I simply purchased a silver cleaning cloth from a local supermarket (I was expecting to need to do this when I purchased the pen and before receiving it). After a very brief and easy clean with the cloth, the pen has come up a treat and presumably now looks as a new pen would. Presumably the pen was returned tarnished, and may have been sitting in stock for a while, so I was expecting it to be tarnished.Still a lightweight and slim pen as you would expect from a Century Cross pen, the opening closing mechanism is a lot smoother than the approximately 4 week old Chrome pen (I bought this new from Amazon), and certainly feels of a higher quality than the Chrome pen. Though I also wouldn't hesitate to recommend the chrome pen.In short the the Cross Classic Century pen, is truly of classic design, they are made in China now but I wouldn't let that put you off. Also, Amazon Warehouse deals are likely to be very much as described and when/if available an option to consider over buying new.

Not what they used to be.....
Like a previous reviewer I compare this pen to a Silver Cross pen purchased many year ago. The new pen arrived tarnished in the box. It feels cheap. The extend/retract action is not smooth. A real disappointment for a pen priced at over £90. I have returned it. Luckily I have my original that is now over 30 years old and still going strong.

Awful build quality
I have a number of Cross pencils and pens from years gone by (an 18th, a 21st etc). Having lost one, I sought to buy an identical replacement. Having received the Classic Century Medalist Pencil 0.7MM with 23CT Gold-Plated Appointments, I am bitterly disappointed. The build quality has dropped dramatically. By comparison with my previous Cross pens, this is literally made of tin-foil. Production processes change, but this is taking the biscuit. Furthermore, the two halves of the pencil do not actual fit properly together - they leave an uncloseable gap. The whole thing smacks of 'made on the cheap' while exploiting a previously quality brand. Shame on you Cross. For those considering purchase, for the same money you can achieve higher quality with <other> brands.

Disappointed
Excellent service and delivery. However I am disappointed with the box. For the make and price of the pen I expected it in a nice pen gift box with cross on. It is a Christmas present and looks as if it was picked up in a supermarket! The person for whom it is intended uses Cross pens I bought it because the person expects quality!
