On Eagle's Wings: A Journey Through Illness Toward Healing

Father Joncas' music has been a gift for many of us throughout the years and the spiritual journal he has written about his his battle with Gillian-Barre syndrome gives us more of his considerable talent. He describes his illness carefully and completely without embellishment or self-pity. However, the most compelling part of his journey with this strange illness are his spiritual reflections about his own reaction to being completely paralyzed. He keeps asking God what he is supposed to learn from his suffering and I believe God has given him the answer throughout this book. The best thing about his story for me is that suffering can happen to any one of us at any time and Fr. Joncas has given us a beautiful reflection on how we find meaning in now how we fall but in how we get up.

As a nurse and a Catholic it was very easy to identify everything Fr. Michael experienced. I appreciated his references to the music that was helpful to him during recovery. He is a very talented musician and composer and God has blessed us all in his recovery. I am now working in pastoral ministry and will use this book to encourage others who are faced with illnesses that will involve long term recovery.

Rev. Mike Joncas' music has been a gift to us. We have sung his songs in good times and sad; he has profoundly touched our lives. Reading this book has taken us on his journey with Gillian-Barre's disease gives. He describes his illness and allows us to walk the journey with him back to health. A powerful book I treasure and have recommended to many.

Michael Joncas tells his own powerful story of his near-death illness and his long recovery. Throughout it all, he credits the grace of God and the support of family and friends who advocated for his healthcare. A must read!

I knew Fr.Mike's music , but I did not know about his personal story. A very interesting and fast read.
