I've owned many pens over the years. I enjoy the act of writing, and so the feel of the instrument is important to me--both in terms of how it rests in my hand and how it moves across the paper. Then I also want something that looks nice. I have owned three Montblancs in my life. I mention that because when people think of a nice pen, that's what they often have in mind. I love my MBs. But this is the pen I carry with me to work every day.Part of that is because I'm not quite so terrified of losing it as I am with something that costs five times (or more) than this. But it is also because this pen is just a joy to use. It feels substantial and, for my money, has an elegance that strikes just the right note--neither too flashy nor too tame. And the cross ink refills ensure the ink will glide (as a roller ball should) across the paper.It's no lightweight pen, so be sure you want something with some heft to it. And it isn't thin, as you might think of Cross pens as being, so be sure you want a pen like a small cigar (like a Montblanc, for example). But if that's what you want (and I do), then this is a very nice pen. It will last you a long time.Or, if you are forgetful, you can lose it three or four times and STILL have money left from what you would have spent on that MB.

I bought this Townsend as Amazon “Like New” used. The pen is truly like new....but AMAZON, STOP PUTTING PACKING TAPE ON YOUR USED ITEMS!!!!! The Cross packaging is nice and is part of the value of a premium pen.As for the pen, it’s awesome! The “lustrous chrome” is classy without being gawdy. The nib writes very smoothly and evenly especially for stainless steel. The fine nib that I purchased writes a beautiful line that is on the thick side for fine compared to other brands. Cross medium nibs put a little too much ink down in my opinion. I’m very happy with my pen (but not the packaging Amazon!!!).

The pen is, naturally, stark white with black furniture, and the finial has the mesh pattern of the communicator on the helmet. It's a very simple design but elegantly so, just like the stormtrooper armour for which it is named.A good fountain pen is not as random or clumsy as a ballpoint; it is a more elegant writing instrument from a more civilized age. Even so, a bad writing experience will ruin even the best-looking fountain pen.The Townsends are slim, which is a Cross design hallmark, but not so slim as to be uncomfortable to use for extended writing sessions. The section is plastic, which I prefer, and offers a solid grip. The caps post solidly, but being solid brass, make the pen untenably back-heavy when posted.The display stand came with the pen, and when I'm not using the pen, I proudly have the pen on display.

I purchased a Quartz Blue Lacquer/Rhodium Plated CROSS Townsend Pen, which was beautifully balanced in my hand. It is also stunning to look at when the light reflects of the diamond engraved body pattern. I was so impressed with this pen, I decided to compliment it, by purchasing the Black Lacquer/Rhodium Plated version.The Pen was delivered using Prime Next Day Delivery and as expected was beautifully balanced in my hand. The Black Lacquer finish with Rhodium Plated appointments gives the Pen a real sense of Quality and Class. Both pens sent by Amazon included a Luxury Gift Box which lead to a certain amount of disappointment concerning this Townsend Quartz Blue Lacquer Pen. The Townsend Black Lacquer Pen came with a Substantial Snap-Hinged Box which looks absolutely amazing. I would certainly classify this as a Luxury Gift Box and is very much in keeping with this Pen’s relatively expensive price tag. The problem is that this Amazing Luxury Gift Box highlighted how BASIC the so-called Luxury Gift Box was that came with this more expensive Townsend Quartz Blue Lacquer Pen. Perhaps Pictures of the Gift Box that the Pen's include should be shown as part of Amazon’s selling protocol. Had I not purchased the 2nd Pen, I would have been none the wiser, concerning the Huge difference in Gift Box Quality for the same Pen Range. The saving grace is that I can display both my Townsend Pens in the proper Luxury Gift Box and they look Fantastic side by side.If I have one slight issue, Gift Box aside, it would be the Cap-End appointments not being perfectly flush with the Cap body and are somewhat sharp/jagged. I believe this would be unlikely to cause me any injuries and may well smooth out with usage. That said it does somewhat let down the otherwise High-Quality finish of both my pens.All in All, I think both pens are wonderful and really glad I have purchased them from Amazon, for a competitive price. This Quartz Blue Lacquer pen really does look stunning when used in bright Sunlight.

I purchased this pen direct from Amazon at a good price but was surprised at the poor quality, especially given the normal high retail price. There was a sharp section of metal at the top of the pen cap and the finger hold section was not aligned with the barrel, so this was uncomfortable to hold (barrel narrower). The pen itself looked nice (very shiny) and was balanced to hold, although the box was far inferior to a much cheaper Cross pen I had recently purchased. I notified Cross but didn't receive a satisfactory response given that it is their product..."return to Amazon for replacement and send replacemernt back to Cross for a modified/new cap if still unhappy"...the cap was not the issue! Evidently Cross pens were much better before they moved manufacturing to China and I have used their pens for decades. I returned it to Amazon for a refund and certainly won't buy another! I note there is a similar review on another Amazon site about the lack of alignment with the barrel, so my experiece is not isolated one.

I love this pen. The weight is just right, the quality rotation mechanism to reveal the cartridge feels like it would work forever, and the ink refits themselves are great. The one that came supplied never seems to last too long for some reason, I don't know if they come with only half-filled refills, but replacements are easy to come by. The colour of the pen is bright and easy to maintain - it doesn't seem to scuff easily. The only reason I have had three is that I lost my first and broke my second in a car accident.This pen is, in short, one of the best CROSS pens I have ever owned. I do a lot of writing, and my colleagues are always commenting on the look and feel of my pen. A great purchase.

I was really disappointed when I received this item as the box was damaged with the label across the brand name being ripped off. It looks awful, how could the person sending this not have noticed? This was my big present for my husband, I wanted to get him a quality, investment pen for Christmas and so, I splashed out spending more than I should. Then I receive this box and have no choice but to give it to him looking like this. It made me really upset and I feel like it’s tainted the whole amazing gifting experience of opening a beautiful box with quality pen inside. If this is the quality of the box I’ve been sent me, what does it say about the pen inside? I ended up feeling really embarrassed having to gift this.
