I unreservedly recommend that you buy the BD Matrix system of tools; Apple-level quality and performance.
As a father of three who isn't made of money and needs or loves do it yourself work for home construction, yard, or automotive tools, i can't say enough good things about what Black&Decker/Dewalt have done here with the Matrix tool system. It is simply Apple computer level quality, innovation, durability, efficiency, simple and intuitive yet powerful and versatile. My two sons and i are now finishing up installing 5/8 inch plywood and a steel roof on our 16x80 mobile home with this. The original old model matrix base/motor unit and battery are still going strong after taking all the abuse a 220lb 6'3" athletic male can put on it, driving 1000s of 4" deck screws and sheet metal roof screws with the Impact/Driver attachment, cutting 5/8" CDX plywood and even 2x4's with the 3 3/8" Trim Saw attachment, drilling 2" holes in plywood and 2x4's with the Drill attachment.. a lot of hard use over more than 2 years and awesome power, performance and durability. I just ordered a matrix tool bag to organize and protect our investment, as well as another drill/driver unit (the new model has a bright LED work light in the base), so now we have three batteries (one of them aftermarket), two chargers, and two base/power units (now two people can work at the same time), 2 drill attachments, 2 impact/driver attachments, and the jig saw, trim saw, air compressor/pressure guage attachments. I've wasted far more money over the years on plug-in tools that did not stand up to a fraction of what this unit has lasted through. I simply can't believe the quality and versatility you get for the price you pay. This is a GREAT investment and we're coordinating our future puchases of home flashlight, outdoor boombox for beach and work site, lawnmower, trimmer, small chainsaw, etc, with this Black&Decker Matrix system of batteries and products. The ONLY negative i have to report is that Black & Decker does not offer a model with a brushless motor in the Matrix system. If you want the heavy-duty professional/commercial grade power, durability, extended battery life and performance of brushless motors, you are forced to switch to their Dewalt line of battery powered tools which is NOT interchangeable with the Black&Decker Matrix system of batteries and attachments.. That means if i want to start out with the BD Matrix system to save money, i cannot seamlessly upgrade and branch out to the commercial quality of the Dewalt line of tools later, i basically have to abandon the investment i've made in the BD Matrix tool system and have to buy all the important attachments, batteries, chargers, etc all over again. Since i want to start a small, home-based construction, yard-work and handy-man business with my sons, i will want to upgrade to the Dewalt commercial tool system eventually, but i do not regret one bit the money i've spent on this BD Matrix tool system; it's probably the best investment in tools i've ever made.

Smaller profile, lighter weight, interchangeable attachments? Sold.
I had a 12 year old Craftsman NiCad 18V drill that had a worn out grip and was really, really heavy. Still works, but I wanted a lighter weight replacement for it (initially I was in the market for an impact driver, not a drill - but given the fact that the Matrix allows for both, with only one battery, in a smaller more light weight package I was sold). The body/motor, battery: Part of the reason I ended up going with this drill was that I already had other garden tools that have the 20V MAX battery system, and I liked that I could interchange batteries. The drill body is lightweight and compact; the grip is comfortable (mind you as a woman I have bigger hands); the trigger is just sensitive enough that you feel like you have a lot of control without being 'lurchy'. A huge upgrade for me is actually having the LED light - wow. What a difference having a light makes. This made the little bit of extra money to go with this newer model totally worth it for me. The battery is relatively easy to remove and charges quickly. The tiny battery charger is good in that it doesn't take up much space, but bad in that, well, it doesn't take up much space. I can see if it wasn't stored properly or table mounted somehow that it would be relatively easy to lose. The interchangeable heads are relatively easy to snap on and off. I can see though if you had arthritis that it would take a bit of elbow grease to remove them - but perhaps with use this will loosen up. I like the fact that a standard Ph2 and Straight screw driver bit comes with the unit and attaches for easy access via a magnet to the top of the body - but - I can see myself bumping the top and knocking it off. Haven't done it yet, but I can see it happening. I almost wish it 'clicked' in somehow. To me, the 20V Li system seems like a huge power upgrade, and for sure the battery lasts longer and is MUCH lighter than what I am used to. The drill has a lot of power even on lower torque settings. Drilling into masonry on smaller jobs hasn't been a problem (at all). The unit is lightweight but seems sturdy enough; I haven't had the misfortune of dropping it yet so I can't comment on how well it would withstand any kind of impact. This drill is great bang for your buck. The chuck makes it easy to swap bits in and out of and with little effort, to tighten into. The head snaps out easily to exchange with other attachments. I have used the following attachments so far (and will review each separately, but here's a taste) - Inflator: I'm surprised at how often I've already used this attachment - it works really well, has little to no bouncing of gauge needle (as long as you're attached to the item you're inflating properly) and comes with pin attachments for balls and beds, etc. It's worked great for our bikes and bike trailer wheels; I haven't tried it on the car yet. Hedgetrimmer: This little trimmer does a great job - it's not for big jobs, but for finessing a project it's perfect. I have several Yew bushes to the front of my property and for shearing, tidying up it's great. I've been cleaning up the bushes about 1" depth at a time and they look fantastic. Overall, I love this drill. I love the fact it's light, smaller profiled, has a ton of power, the batteries are interchangeable with other B&D products I already have, and, the fact I can by a whole barrage of tools for hundreds less by buying just the attachments and not individual units. Highly recommend.

Great Drill for Great Price
After being let down once too often by my old 9 volt battery operated drill from another manufacturer, I ordered this 20 volt Black and Decker drill and wished I hadn't waited so long to upgrade. This Black and Decker has ample power to bore clean holes through all types of wood. Very good drill with good power and a good, balanced feel, securing bits in the chuck is easy and secure, battery charging is quick with helpful and straightforward light indicators, holds charge well. The integrated work-light is a thoughtful touch especially at this price-point. The drill is based on B&D's Matrix platform, which allows attachment of several other power tool applications, such as various saw types. I have not yet purchased other applications, but the prices appear reasonable, and the drill and Matrix parts appear very durable, so I am comfortable these applications will work. Packaging is very basic, there is no case and the drill comes with only a two-sided screw driver bit. Be prepared to bring your own bits and perhaps a soft case to the party, but this drill is a winner.

Powerful, Balanced, and Incredibly Versatile!
The BLACK+DECKER 20V MAX Matrix Drill/Driver (BDCDMT120WC1FF) is a compact yet powerful tool that delivers excellent performance and functionality. The MATRIX System makes it incredibly versatile—just swap attachments to drill, cut, sand, and more with one tool. It features a 3/8-inch chuck, 11 clutch settings, and a variable speed trigger that gives you precise control for any task. The drill feels well-balanced in hand, making it easy to use even for longer jobs or in tight spaces. Lightweight, durable, and sleek in white, it comes with everything you need: power unit, drill attachment, battery, charger, and bit. Great value for money, outstanding functionality, and a reliable addition to any DIY setup!

If you're considering a Craftsman Bolt-On, consider this....
I was very intrigued when I saw the display at a Sears store for their Bolt-On system. A power tool system that uses a common power grip with interchangeable heads switching the tool from a drill to an impact driver to a jig saw to a trim saw to a router and more. I was sitting on the fence on this tool when I saw some of the attachments on sale at a Sears Outlet store for half the retail price. Through my research, I found out that the Craftsman Bolt-On is in fact manufactured for Sears by Black & Decker and that B & D had their own version of the system called the Matrix. There are YouTube videos out there that showed me that the attachments between the two systems are interchangeable. I can personally tell you that they are. I found the Black & Decker Matrix Drill/Driver starter kit is about $30 cheaper than the same thing that has a Craftsman label. I bought the Black & Decker power grip and drill from Amazon, but all my other accessories are Craftsman...and they work. The battery is something I haven't tried to interchange and I haven't seen anything on the internet or YouTube showing that they are, so for now, I'm not going to play around with swapping the batteries. Besides, the B&D batteries are cheaper anyways. The tool is designed for the weekend DIY person. I'd consider it a light to medium duty tool. The max RPM on the drill is 800 compared to 1,700 RPMs on my Dewalt, but it definitely gets the job done. I've used most of the attachments that I own. The jig saw cut a piece of 1/4" ply wood with ease. The trim saw did its job adequately on a piece of trim. The sander helped me finish off a kitchen cabinet. Some of the accessories may be a little awkward to use because of the way it attaches to the power grip. I haven't used my router attachment yet, but I looks to me that it may not be easy to use. On one of my Saturdays, I used the Matrix system to construct a small wooden gate. I took with me the B&D power grip with the drill/driver head and 1/4" impact driver. I used the drill to drill the pilot holes then I used the impact driver to install the 1/4" lag bolts. It all worked well. This is a great DIY tool if you want to own different types of power tools and are limited by space and/or budget. Make sure you get the "C" (last character of the model number) version of the tool as this is the newer version that fixed an overheating problem.

Nice and lightweight
I love this drill. I think that it is a tad lighter than my other one and love the color!

Great idea and well executed.
Of course the Matrix is an excellent idea but it is also pretty well executed. I can now carry all my essential power tools in one bag. There is a trade-off however. At this price point you are not going to get the most powerful or durable tools. I burned out an earlier model handle. Make sure you get the "C" model identified with a light on the handle and the bit storage on top. Apparently the earlier handle had a tendency to overheat. B&D replaced it without having to return the destroyed part. The batteries are light and powerful. I recommend you get at least one larger battery and the AC powered handle for extended operation. I have every attachment except the power inflator which gets poor reviews and I don't need anyway. All the attachments work well. I especially like the small trim saw. It is small, portable, and handy. However, it only cuts about an inch of material so you have to cut both sides of 2x material. The reciprocating saw looks funny but works better than most. The short length makes it easy to maneuver. This is the only attachment I have broken and again B&D was quick with a replacement. I keep the Matrix in my RV and the space and weight savings are tremendous. Highly recommended for everything except a dedicated construction site.
