What You Must Know About Vitamins, Minerals, Herbs and So Much More: Choosing the Nutrients That Are Right for You

This book should be in every home
I got tired of scraping snippets of information off the web about the benefits of all the vitamins and supplements I take and then storing them in a Word document that gets lost on my computer or stuffed in a binder that I'll never look at. I read something the other day about the interactions of vitamins E and K and that got me to thinking, am I unknowingly creating my own witch's brew by combining the things I'm taking, especially since I swallow them all in one sitting? I decided I needed a book. It arrived today and it's exactly what I was hoping for. Each vitamin and supplement is logically laid out. Part 1 is the nutrients section and explains what each thing item is. How it functions in the body. Symptoms of deficiency. Food sources that have it. Causes of deficiency. Conditions that can benefit from it. Recommended dosage. Side effects and contraindications. Part 2 contains specific health conditions. If you have condition x, then take thing y. The book is easy to understand and does not read like the extremely medically technical Physicians' Desk Reference. Others are complaining about missing pages. I have the 2020 copyright and it has 498 pages. It's complete.

With humble intent, I admit that I'm aware that I am very fortunate/lucky when it comes to enjoying great physical health. Still I was intrigued to get this kindlebook What You Must Know About Vitamins Minerals Herbs and So Much More by Pamela Wartian Smith for multiple supplement ideas to preserve andor further enhance my existing good health for both present and future reference. Generally good, but lots of mistakes
This is a good book to open your mind to how the various nutrients affect your health and which food items you can find them. The premise is that there are ways to treat conditions with food, which I am completely on board with and have good personal experience with. However, the author does not do a good job of reporting which foods have what nutrients. If you read the book, you will conclude that wheat (including wheat bread) and soy in all its forms are the healthiest foods you can confuse. On the other hand, blueberries, akai, flex, and chia are mentioned as good sources of only a couple of nutrients. Additionally, there are flat out mistakes in the book. For example, food sources for molybdenum are listed with the amounts of milligrams of molybdenum (e.g. lentils have 155 milligrams) vs. under recommended dosage it states that 45-200 micrograms are required. For reference, 1milligram is 1000 micrograms, so just about every food listed will give you an overdose. Same issue with Selenium and a few other places. Also, some lists of food sources of nutrients have repeated mentions of the same food source, yet list different amounts, e.g. in Selenium barley is listed as having 66 milligrams and 24 milligrams. My guess is most people wouldn't notice this and hopefully would be prompted to generally improve their diets, so that is good.

Great Gift for My Brother in Law!
A gift for my Brother -in-Law for Christmas. If I wasn't so busy at the holidays, I would have gently handled/read the book before sending it! He received it and loved it. Told me he'd let me know what he gleaned from it the next time we get together. Thanks! Great book in great condition, good shipping, etc.
