Excellent Sharpener! Almost returned, please read review.
Important Information!! I had bought a Work Sharp sharpener and shipped to my 83yo mother, and she loves it. She bragged of cutting paper easily. I purchased one for myself, and initially attempted to sharpen Chicago Cutlery, and Henckels german made knives. I was frustrated and gave up as I wasn’t initially able to get any sharpness in the blades. I was going to return my unit, but my mother telling me she loved the one I sent her, caused me to sleep on it. Today I checked instructions again, and saw that the case opens, so I opened it up the (lifts easily for cleaning). I was impressed at the design and after discs become worn (likely after a very long time and a lot of use) you have the ability to flip the sanding discs to access the fresh back sides. I also noticed new discs could be ordered which all signifies a quality product to me. I then chose one knife to commit to. I did two full sharpening cycles, on each side of the knife (first eight, then left), and Boom! I was cutting paper easily. I needed to be patient and cut through enough metal to get to the edge, as the blade profile was different from steeper angled hand sharpening previously. ALL knives sharpened up wonderfully!! All cut paper as you can see from my photo, and I am VERY happy with my purchase! Highly recommend! I’ll likely give a bunch out for Christmas gifts! Every household needs one.

Does what it should, easy to use, sharpens a range of blades
This is great, and totally worth the money. The only knife sharpener I ever had before was a small whetstone. I had a bunch of kitchen knives that were in sad shape, all duller than an HR presentation. I read about this one on Wirecutter, and decided to give it a try. Good purchase. You plug it in, turn it on, and run your knives through a few times on each side. It only runs for a short amount of time, so you don't have to worry about overdoing it. Best of all, it actually works. Those knives are sharp now. You can remove part of it in order to make the openings larger, so that you can sharpen something thicker, such as scissors. Don't use ceramic blades on this. You can also sharpen serrated blades, though not in the same way as straight blades. The sharpening wheels are replaceable, which is great, meaning this is not disposable junk. You can also open it up to get the metal dust out from inside. If you want useful knives again, just buy this. There are supposedly better sharpeners, but they are way more expensive, and I'm not about to bring my blades to Chopped or anything, so I am good. You will be too.

Simple but effective
I have now tried at least 6 different systems for sharpening knives and this is currently my method of choice. I wish I could choose the angle, but 20 degrees is fine for kitchen knives (and the scissor sharpening tool is an added benefit). It's quick at doing it too. Much quicker than manual methods. If you are an expert at using whetsones I don't think you'd be reading this review, so this product is not recommended for you. But if you want a relatively small, consistent, and quick device to sharpen knives to 20 degrees, I think you can stop looking for it. We'll see about its longevity. I've never used flexible abrasive disks before, so I'm hoping the last. I'd like to see an attachment to change the angle (but I think that's part of the e5 system) and maybe an option for different "grits" for the abrasive disks -- but then we would be adding complexity to a system whose main selling point IMO is to be simple. Would I use this to sharpen an heirloom knife? No. But I'm the kind of person who doesn't like babying my tools and if a knife lasts me 30 years instead of 40, I still think it's worth the ease of use and consistency I'm seeing from this little thing. At $50 and the quality I'd expect from a Work Sharp product, I think this is a good buy.

Compact, effective USA made product.
Pleased with this compact and effective electric sharpener so far. Really like the fact the abrasive discs are replaceable. It is American made and that was the deciding factor for my purchase among all the choices out there. It is easy to use and fits in a kitchen drawer.

Compact and easy to use.
This is the first time I've used an electric sharpener to sharpen my kitchen knives. I've used Japanese sharpening stones for years but it's been a bit time consuming as I use two styles of stones to hone the 5 kitchen knives I use every day. I sharpen my knives every week. After looking at several electric sharpener reviews, I decided to buy the Work Sharp Culinary E2 Mini Kitchen Knife Sharpener. This model uses abrasive discs versus their other models which use an abrasive belt. I like the compactness and simplicity but have to admit was a bit skeptical about it's sharpening ability and how long the blade edge would hold. I was pleasantly surprised the blades remained reasonably sharp for about a week. So I continue to sharpen weekly, but it's quick and easy. I registered my E2 Mini with the manufacturer online and received a pair of complimentary replacement abrasive discs from the manufacturer. I don't know how long the discs will last before I needing replacement. Tried looking for the replacement abrasive discs on Amazon but they are apparently unavailable. I went to the manufacturer's website but they only show replacement abrasive belts for their other models. I initiated contact through their website inquiring about the price and availability of replacement discs. Have not yet heard back from them. Here's an update. Changing rating to 5 stars. Shortly after inquiring with Darex, the manufacturers of the Work Sharp Culinary E2 sharpener about replacement sharpening discs, I heard back from them. They said the E2 was a new product and they had not yet updated their web site about replacement discs. They promptly sent a pair of discs. I sharpen my kitchen knives weekly. I've learned how to keep a finished sharp edge on them. So easy to use. Been using the sharpener for over 3 months. Sharpening discs are still good. Have not had to replace them yet.

An adequate sharpener
I transitioned to this product after many years of sharpening my kitchen knives using Japanese whetstones. The whetstone method produces fantastic results, unbeatable really, but is extremely time consuming if done properly (~30m a knife); also, and I speak here from experience, you _will_ experience an impressive finger injury at some point if you do not have proper technique or are not paying attention. So, I settled on the Worksharp E2 based on reviews; it seemed like the best of the "cheap" sharpeners. At $38 from Amazon Warehouse Deals I think it's a good value for the money. I agree with others that the machine seems well engineered, especially for this price category. The results are okay -- not spectacular, but fine for day-to-day use. My knives are definitely sharper. They cut into vegetables and fruit with relative ease, and do an okay job with meat as well. The supplied guide is okay, but not great. There is only one angle, meaning you are somewhat out of luck if you own both western and eastern kitchen knives. The "scissors guide" accesses by removing the knife guide is slightly larger the the tip of my pinky finger and totally worthless -- attempting to sharpen scissors on this machine resulted in something akin to a pair of conjoined butter knives. My favorite party trick with my whetstone-honed knives was surgically bisecting a paper towel. That sort of thing is not going to happen with knives sharpened by this (or any other cheap machine). To get a truly honed edge -- burr, followed by polishing, leading to a mirror finish -- you'd want to successively grind at finer and finer grits, and as far as I can tell, that is not an option using the E2. You could do that using the much more expensive E4 sharpener (https://www.amazon.com/Work-Sharp-Culinary-Kitchen-Sharpener/dp/B07KWWN1MV/ref=pd_rhf_ee_s_cr_simh_0_2/137-6745790-1389266?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07KWWN1MV&pd_rd_r=bfe8a789-7244-419a-8229-f6c02371062b&pd_rd_w=yPK7y&pd_rd_wg=F4htQ&pf_rd_p=67aa5820-8762-4202-90ba-881bb99c913c&pf_rd_r=0E755WT7X6E41B73T9N8&psc=1&refRID=0E755WT7X6E41B73T9N8) plus upgrade kit (https://www.amazon.com/Work-Sharp-Culinary-CPAC004-Multicolor/dp/B074JJ849Q/ref=pd_rhf_ee_s_cr_simh_0_3/137-6745790-1389266?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B074JJ849Q&pd_rd_r=bfe8a789-7244-419a-8229-f6c02371062b&pd_rd_w=yPK7y&pd_rd_wg=F4htQ&pf_rd_p=67aa5820-8762-4202-90ba-881bb99c913c&pf_rd_r=0E755WT7X6E41B73T9N8&psc=1&refRID=0E755WT7X6E41B73T9N8), but the combined price of those items is roughly five times what I paid for this machine.

Easy and almost foolproof
Easy to use; holds knives in the proper position, sharpens quickly and turns off automatically when edge is sharp enough. Works best on smaller, thinner knives, not my big Japanese chef's knife. I'd probably get a better edge with a whetstone, but that requires time and skill I don't have so I'm satisfied with this.
