Learning to Sail: The Annapolis Sailing School Guide for All Ages

I was looking for a copy of a book called “Have Fun Learning To Sail”. It starts with nomenclature and quickly provides lessons and tips for beginners. It is out of print, but this book is a more than worthy replacement. Excellent illustrations and with an abundance of information stressing how to have fun learning to sail.

When scouting for a great little how-to book for my nephew, I came across this gem. It has all you need to understanding beginning sailing in a clear, well-illustrated short book. Since I'm a self-taught sailor myself, I picked up some terminology I never got, such as the proper ways to alert your crew when executing coming about and jibbing: "Helm's to lee!" and "Jibe Ho!" How fun is that? Also learned about heaving to in rough weather, which I never learned. Now I'll have to practice that one....

I wanted a book to give me a start with sailing, for someone who has not sailed since junior high school in an old 'sunfish' type boat. Accurate info, good for a 'first start', as it doesn't go into lots of more advanced details - just the basics. I feel that I have learned quite a lot here, and will be going over it numerous times anticipating the day when lessons will be available.

I really enjoyed the way this book is presented. They do a good job of explaining the new LANGUAGE OF SAILING, where a few books seem to assume (pretentiously) that the words are common. They show clearly that TACK for example has three different meaning in sailing and thus can be confusing. I sailed daily as I read the book one week and it all made sense.

Glad to get this for my great grandson. But he broke his arm in 2 places before he flew here to take sailing lessons on big boats. I hope he can do so next year.

I am a novice sailor and this book really helped to clear up the confusing nautical, sailing terms and procedural how to's! Illustrations are wonderful and complete with well defined and easy to understand steps to aid in getting your boat underway!

This was exactly what I was looking for. I am fairly new to sailing and need everything explained. Other resources constantly use terms without defining them or fail to start at the very beginning. This guide has given me confidence to get out on the water in my small sailboat and try new things.

Easy to read and well illustrated. After reading, I feel like I have a good command of what goes on when sailing. I feel better prepared to take lessons.

Das Buch ist schon etwas für größere Kinder oder auch erwachsene Segel-Anfänger. Sehr gut und verständlich wird hier alles beschrieben, was der Segler hauptsächlich am Anfang wissen muss. Da möchte man am liebsten auch gleich mit aufs Boot steigen. Also, sehr zu empfehlen.
