![Bad Times At The El Royale [Blu-ray] [2018]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81xG9GSB4FL.jpg)

Seven strangers, each with a secret to bury, meet at Lake Tahoe's El Royale, a rundown hotel with a dark past. Over the course of one fateful night, everyone will have a last shot at redemption... before everything goes to hell. Jeff Bridges, Chris Hemsworth, Jon Hamm, Dakota Johnson and Cynthia Erivo lead an all-star cast in BAD TIMES AT THE EL ROYALE. Review: Great little noir movie - Drew Goddard continues his trend of telling character driven stories in a confined space and time. That's what this movie is. It tells the backstory of the people that rented a room in the El Royale hotel, during a day and night in the late 1960s. It shows how their stories evolve and intertwine throughout the movie, employing flashbacks to show each character's origin. All the cast is top notch Here. Jeff Bridges, Jon Hamm and Cynthia Erivo are standouts, among greats. The soundtrack is amazing as well, and Erivo shows her vocal talents in the movie multiple times. There are enough twists and turns to keep you engaged througout the fairly long 2 hours and 20 minute movie, but, as the plot and characters are engaging, it never feels slow or boring. The 4K looks and sounds great, the only thing lacking are the Extras. There is a fairly rudimentary documentary in the Blu-ray disc about the making of the movie , and not much else. Still, the movie is worth owning on its own merits. Review: Decent movie - Good thriller with great acting. Slightly too long though. Nice looking 4k transfer.

Too long
A very long drawn out movie which coulda been cut by half an hour if you cut out all the annoying singing! It's a good movie but needs cut for sure, it's too long before anything really happens which is a shame.

I Love IT! Its so strange and different.
What the heck? It's odd, strange but it all hangs together and makes sense. People arrive at a motel; they book in, and then. . . . .weird things start to take place as we watch those guests in their rooms. ITS WELL WORTH WATCHING IT'S VERY ENTERTAINING! Surprises and changes of direction throw you off guard, but it all comes together, well played, well written and unusual. BUT WONDERFUL! Worth watching more than once. It is a drama!! With several twists. I have said to much already.

watch this and enjoy a great story and acting
this is one of those films that hooks you in by great storytelling and links/actions that cross the film and characters. I found it a gripping, entertaining and worthwhile film to watch. I don't want to say anything about the story/plot as I feel it would spoil it. I would say if you have read any of the hard case crime novels and enjoyed them, this this film is for you.

Nearly but not quite...
This is a good film, don't get me wrong; well written, acted, filmed, paced, basically all good. Where it falls down (and loses a star) is that it doesn't quite pull off what it's trying to do, which is clearly to make a 'Tarantino' movie. It has so many of his tricks, from the soundtrack to the episodic progression and the big name actors. Plus of course, the bodycount, which is epic. Don't get too attached to any of the protaganists, not all of them it to the end of the film. It's kind of difficult to write a review without spoilers, so I'll sumarise in an attempt to avoid that. So a bunch of characters arrive at the 'El Royale' a motel style hotel perched on the border between two US states. Their reasons for staying there are varied and unrelated(?). As the film develops the characters motivation becomes clear, but the plot gathers speed when Hemsworth turns up and throws the veritable grenade into this mix. It's all pretty transparent, in that you can see what's coming before it happens, but that doesn't reduce the excitement. The actors all turn in good performances, especially John Hamm and Chris Hemsworth. I'll watch it again (and again) as I suspect you'll get more out of it on repeat viewings.
