One big plus of this drive for me was that it works with a regular thunderbolt cable (the USB-C type), and not the proprietary cables that I’ve had to use with previous drives I’ve had. Unfortunately, the drive failed after a couple of months - Time Machine back-ups stopped! I tried re-formatting the drive but my iMac’s Disk First Aid would not complete this process - getting stuck every time on ‘creating the partition map’. So, why the five star review? Well, I got in touch with the supplier (via an Amazon link) and got an extraordinarily quick and helpful response with a number of suggested fixes, and a promise to replace the drive if they didn’t work. As it happened, one of the suggestions did work - re-formatting the drive in another Mac! It seems that the stricter USB initialisation protocols in newer Macs can occasionally cause drives to hang during initialisation. Of course, it would have been better if the drive hadn’t failed in the first place, but any hard drive you can buy has a risk of failure. The five stars are earned because of the exceptional after sales product support!

Strong value for storage capacity The drive offers 1 TB of storage in a portable 2.5-inch form factor (USB 3.0 / USB-C cable included) which makes it a good option for backups, media libraries or console storage. Speeds are solid and consistent … It feels sturdy in hand, and the design is nice and compact. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly external hard drive the ModusTech 1 TB drive is a reasonable choice. Its capacity, portability, compatibility and value are good for many everyday uses. However, if you require top performance, ultra-reliability, or professional-grade durability (e.g., for video editing, heavy I/O, mobile use, business backups) then you might want to look at alternatives from more established storage brands or consider an external SSD.

The initial hard drive failed due to a hardware issue. The customer service offered by modus tech was excellent they replied to my message promptly and immediately tried to rectify issue. Once it became clear it was a hardware issue a new hard drive was sent and arrived the very next day. The new unit is working perfectly

Purchased this to store and secure all my files from my PC, Laptop and Phone and to clear my PC of all my personal files and many, many thousands of pictures to free up space on my main PC and this does the job with ease, and after all that I still only used just over a 1/4 of the space on this hard drive, the transfer speed from PC to this hard drive took no time at all for my files, my pictures took a little longer, but was quick if you know what I mean, I just connected to PC via the USB and transferred and cleared my PC with ease and quickly, cable length could have been a little longer, but made it work anyway, the hard drive is very compacted and small takes up no space at all really, so all on all in my honest opinion would highly recommend.

Hard drive is as it says, compact, movable and easy to use. One of the cheapest on the market. I bought one in August which stopped working around 2 weeks ago, after emailing the team I was able to sort a replacement asap. Really kind members of staff who were more than happy to assist me, special mention to Esther. Would recommend to those who are on the go. Seems to be a UK company which I’m more than happy to support.

Pros: From the moment I unboxed it, I could tell this wasn’t just another generic external hard drive. It also resists fingerprints well, which is a small but appreciated detail. The drive is truly plug-and-play. I connected it to my Windows laptop, and it was instantly recognised. No formatting, no drivers, no unnecessary prompts, just smooth operation right from the start. The USB 3.0 port provides fast data transfer; I regularly move large files (10 GB+) in a matter of minutes. I’ve also used it on my MacBook and my smart TV without any compatibility issues. It’s become my go-to device for backing up work documents, photos, videos, and large media files. I even use it with my PS4 to store extra games, and it performs flawlessly. It runs cool and silently even after long usage, which I really appreciate. The inclusion of a USB-C adapter is another thoughtful bonus, I can easily use it with newer laptops and phones that don't have USB-A ports anymore Cons: The cable could be slightly longer: it works fine for desktops, but it’s a little short when connecting to a tower under the desk No carry pouch included: would’ve been a nice extra, though not a dealbreaker at all Happy Buyer!!!

The included lead did not work and kept connecting/disconnecting repeatedly. I contacted the seller via the amazon site and they took their time responding, however the matter is now resolved.

This external hard drive works exactly as expected. It was easy to set up right out of the box and connected quickly to my laptop. The size is slim and portable, making it great for backups and extra storage without taking up much space. Transfer speeds are solid, and it’s been reliable so far with no issues. Great value for the price.

In the beginning the item had a hick-up. used Time Machine to back-up, but after running it did not show the data on the external drive. Next morning it was visible? Very handy to have two poss. USB's connection!
