Excellent, Comfortable, Effective, & Inexpensive
The overall quality of these Leightning L3 Earmuffs are EXCELLENT. They are very comfortable to wear for extended periods. They are extremely effective at suppressing loud noise. . . and they are startlingly inexpensive.I've had mine for about a month now, and I use them weekly for shooting firearms. LOUD firearms. . . with several other shooters firing very close to me. Typically I ALWAYS wear BOTH earplugs AND earmuffs when I go shooting. With these, I find that there is little actual difference if I skip wearing earplugs with them.Frankly, I am surprised that there are ANY people on here who gave bad reviews, but I guess there will always be certain people who will find something to complain about. . . even if you gave it to them for free. Listen, I suppose it's possible that there could be better earmuffs out there. . . especially if you have loads of money to burn, and cost is no object. But seriously, for $20, I really think that these are pretty hard to beat. Heck, at ANY price, I think these are pretty hard to beat.** NOTE ** I've read some other buyers complaints that these muffs are not adjustable, and that they were too small to fit their heads and reach their ears. I think that's probably because they couldn't figure out how to adjust them. It took me a few minutes to figure it out myself: The way you adjust them is to pull the metal headband wire out of the black plastic mounting swivels which are mounted on the plastic ear-cups. When the muffs are shipped, they are fully collapsed down to their smallest size, with the metal headband wire pieces pushed all the way down into the black plastic swivels. It's actually a FAR better design than my old earmuffs which adjusted by telescoping the top of the headband instead.Bottom line? Buy 'em & don't look back. I've used alot of earmuffs over the years, and these are the best ones I've had yet.

Quiet, comfortable, well constructed.
So far good product. I use these for sleeping, not shooting. Like sleeping in a sound-proof chamber. My upstairs neighbors are noisy at night and come home late. Outside traffic noise. I can't hear any of it unless it is super loud. Muffs are comfortable and after a few minutes wearing I don't notice them on my head. The only downside is that I can only sleep on my back, as they are too wide to turn on my side. One minor problem is the rubber seals have a sharp plastic edge on the inside that rubs against my ears and almost feels like it could cut the skin. I solved this by wearing a cloth ear protector cut from the toes of cotton socks. In general I am pleased, and finally getting some needed sound sleep.

Great compact earmuffs
I have been using this ear muff for several months now and they are great. The only concern I had at the time was with the low NRR rating, but since I have a way around it for my purposes, it wasn't a deal breaker. And besides, the price was so affordable that I wouldn't be out much money if it didn't work out. For my purposes, I use this ear muff whenever I go out to the range (indoor and outdoor). To get around the low NRR I use double hearing protection which means I use a disposable ear plug with the ear muff over it. I can still hear the range master since they use a PA system all the while I'm avoiding serious hearing damage (from both the PA system and the gun sounds). But the main reason why I bought this style ear muff (other than it was from Howard Leight) was that at the time my older one was just too bulky. It was great at blocking noise, but it made it such that I couldn't get a low cheek weld on my rifle's butt stock. This meant having to raise the sights needlessly. As a rule of thumb, you want your scope as low and close to the barrel as possible. Since this ear muff is about half the thickness of my older one, it allowed me get a low cheek weld and also allowed me to put the scope much closer to the barrel. In addition this ear muff is really light weight, looks good, and not as tight as I expected it to be. You do want to be a little careful when extending/retracting the ear muffs from the head band since the steel frame used to connect the muffs to the headband is thin. I always feel like I might inadvertently bend or break it. Also, I bought a pair of Radians Clay Pro Shooting Glasses which has a really thin wireframe. This helps in eliminating any tightness around the ears for those of you who find wearing this ear muff with your existing shooting glass uncomfortable. Now there's one cautionary note. If you are going to be in close proximity to large caliber gunfire (especially indoors) or around sound that is about or over 160 decibels, this ear muff may not be sufficient for you unless you use ear plugs along with this. Other than that, this is a great buy.

Good Fit, Work Well With Plugs
I bought these for my girlfriend to take to the shooting range becuase she is not a fan of the noise. She wore them along with a pair of in ear buds for added protection. She said they were OK but it's tough to go on that because she didn't like the sound initially anyways. I can say that I put them on without additionally ear plugs while a 9mm and .40cal were being fired and I have to be honest, I wouldn't wear only these to the range. It was a new indoor area so I wasn't really used to the acoustics in there a whole lot compared to my usual range so that may have played a part. Don't get me wrong, they definitely functioned in dampening the sound. They would absolutely work if you had nothing else, but from my brief encounter they wouldn't be the first ear protection I own that I would reach for. That being said, I am sure they work fine with additional ear plugs in. I must say they are very comfortable, sleek profile and everything. They fold up into a very nice neat package which is great. I am a bit nervous about breaking the small metal wire though when I adjust them, but it hasn't happened yet so whatever. All in all they are good so far and I won't be sending them back. Get them if you are considering it.
