Electric Quilt A-0008EQ, Null

The EQ8 software was easy to install. I bought the beginner book but the instructions with the software were useful too. There's also Youtube videos that show how the software works. After playing around with the program, I'm having a blast designing and redesigning quilts. I can pick different colors and block designs to see how the quilt will look. I love the printing features - you can print the designed quilt, print templates for cutting specific designs, and it estimates the amount of fabric in yards that you need for each fabric type and color. You can change colors and block shapes and even design your own block. The only thing I'd like to see is a bigger variety of fabrics in the library. You can export fabric photos but it would be nice to have a more robust library. I would also like a "save" feature that overrides an existing quilt when I'm editing. It just saves updates to a new file and keeps the previous versions. Still, when I open the quilt project, it shows all the versions I made so that's handy. The price of the software is reasonable too. I would recommend this product.

I have been wanting the Electric Quilt design program for a while, and I'm so glad I finally made the purchase! This order comes in a box with a user manual and download code to download the program directly from the Electric Quilt website. (This is all very professional looking and I would feel confident giving this as a gift.) The process was very simple and I had no trouble setting everything up. They also allow you to have the program on two computers at a time and you can transfer to a new computer as often as needed. You will need internet access past the download because the system will periodically check that you are running a legitimate copy of the program. The software is pretty user friendly but does take a minute to figure out. The manual that comes with the program is pretty good and there are links to video lessons on the home page. I picked up the "EQ8 Lessons for Beginners" book and it has really sped up the process of figuring everything out. Don't forget to check out the Electric Quilt website, they offer add on packages for fabric palettes (some of them free and some paid). Overall, couldn't be happier with the purchase.

This program will definitely save me many dollars in quilt patterns. There are limitless possibilities for creating new patterns and testing out different colors and fabrics in the patterns you create. I am really glad I bought the "Lessons for Beginners" book with this - the instructions are very clear and easy to follow. I feel like the software is user friendly, however I don't think I would feel that way if I hadn't purchased the book and gone through the lessons. The program is very powerful with a lot of features. I am rarely thrilled with software but this program is amazing. I highly recommend!!

Like: website support Dislike: software uses some odd conventions for organizing “folders” hierarchy not obvious, I took a class to learn. Which I never do. So once I got through the tour, basic functions are easy enough. Like: Block designing is easy. Dislike: Certain workflows for managing fabric are not obvious—Can you tell that when I say it’s not intuitive I’m really saying EQ wasted my day? On up side there are good tutorials on YouTube. Dislike: EQ will calculate yardage—if you want to make a single pot holder, aka block. Yup. No yardage for total quilt, sashing, borders, backing or cutting diagram for the whole. Motif function etc for examining quilting is more of a toy. Not enough resolution, no edge to edge looks. Like: good for trying out quilt and block coloration. Good for block design, specifically. Great for resizing blocks. Great for overall block design and experimentation. Pretty quick actually. Great for eyeballing a classic block and recreation. Color trials are ok for a crude pass. Meh on fabrics. Your screen limitations are going to make that a toy. Great for keeping a catalog of your designs in different colors. Great for identifying really ugly combos (that’s useful too!) Haven’t decided if I’d buy again. Probably not. I like playing with it but lacks functionality that would light my fire.

Love it! Don't have to be a computer guru to use it. I am new to quilting & appreciate the guidance the program gives. Nice to have printed as well as online instructions. Very nice.

I have to admit that this program isn't as intuitive as it could be, but it's invaluable for creating a quilt block or top from your imagination. It's preloaded with dozens of blocks, but you can also create one from scratch. Once you have, you toss in the dimensions you want and the program is able to tell you how much of each fabric you'll need. I will need practice to get proficiency, but really enjoying the process so far, and the project I bought it for came out fantastic. And the more I use it, the more cost-effective the purchase is.
