VERY GOOD PRODUCT
I have been a fabricator for over 35 years. I have used an automatic lens hood for over 22 of those 35 years. I have used Huntsman, Jackson and Miller auto hoods over the years and they perform very well as you probably know. the other thing you know is that those brands are VERY expensive!! several hundreds of dollars more than this hood. I like EVERYTHING about this hood. First, the head gear is higher quality than ANY of the high dollar brands. Second, the lens is higher quality than either Jackson or Miller. It's always on and ready to weld. the hood is very light weight and compact and works well in tight areas. the lens is very easy to operate and I especially like the 3 preset shade function. This is a professional quality welding helmet at a very good price!!!

great helmet
Switching between grind and weld is a bit inconvenient since the switch is on the inner panel, but works well enough. Has a lot of view area, dims well. Overall pretty solid.

Everybody Should Own a Sellstrom
This is the "CADILLAC" of Welding Helmets .... It's Comfortable ... Lightweight , And a Great Value for your hard earned Money .... Don't waste your Money on the "FANCY SMANCY" Helmets with The Beautiful Graphics on them... And besides , No One is going to be looking at you while you weld .... (And shouldn't) You Don't want To have anyone damage their Eyes RIGHT !!!!! Kind of reminds Me of the Song "BLINDED BY THE LIGHT" Very Good Helmet All the way around !!! Just Like the Story about The Three Bears... One's TOO BIG , One's Too Small, This helmet is "Just Perfect" Maybe even Buy TWO !!!! That way if you Break one , You will always have one ready too Go...

Quality helmet.
Easy adjustments, head gear and lens shades. Light weight. Good clean viewing area. Easy to change lens protection covers. Works like it should.

Pretty nice hood, but some interesting limitations
Generally a nicely made, decent hood with a medium-sized viewing area for an auto-darkening filter. The headgear seems pretty good and adjusts easily with a push to turn knob. The filter provides a truer color rendition than others I've used (more gray, less green) and it seems to work well. I bought a Sellstrom because I wasn't particularly thrilled about trusting my eyes to a Chinese-made product, so I was disappointed to find that this hood is made in China. That's what the warning sticker on the hood says - don't know if that means all of the components are made in China or just the shell, but it's disappointing nonetheless. It also includes the warning that the hood "is not intended for overhead welding". Huh? Why the hell not and why would you want a hood that doesn't allow you to weld overhead if you need to? The ADF sees to work well and has an adjustment for how quickly it 'lightens' after the arc dims, which is pretty cool and was the only adjustment I needed to make (it was going light a little too quickly). My only other reservation is the the protective plate that keeps the front of the ADF from getting dirty or damaged has to be installed from the rear and it has to be very strongly flexed in order to fit into the slots - this means that it has to be real thin and those may be a challenge to find at a local welding store - usually the large plates are thicker than the ones provided with this hood (they provide one each of the front and rear protective plastic pieces). Overall, a pretty decent hood and the ADF is quite good, but it's too bad that, for a somewhat premium price, it's made in China. Had I know this, I would have spent a little more for the Jackson, which I assume (perhaps incorrectly) is American made.

WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG...
love this helmet has a wider viewing area and tint setting for all types of light issues. Comes with extra shields for front and inside. Made and cost for the intermediate hobby welder. Above the 40$ harbor freight and under the miller 400$.. but I do recommend that you do go to your local welding shop to try the fit first and by amazon to save the money

Worked great
Worked great, maybe it's my head shape but doesn't stay on my head very well.

This hood's 1/1/1/1 clarity is Top shelf!! Very happy with the quality and durability. 2yr warranty is nice but I feel it will last years longer. Only wish the headgear was more adjustable and padded in the back. But other then that it's great. I'm a welder/fabricator in a busy shop with 20 other welder/fabricators and I'm not easy on my gear! It takes the abuse and works without fail. Worth every penny!

Upgraded from a Lincoln Viking 1740. Got flashed too many times when going around fixtures etc and wanted a good 4 sensor helmet. This helmet seemed to have many heavy use tradesmen using it with good feedback, plus it had features that mattered to me. Thoughts after first day with it: Lens is super clear - almost like… it shouldn’t be that clear. Very very nice. Huge view area, mega upgrade from previous helmet. Controls and lens access are all good. Grind mode gives you a blinking red light you can see - so no forgetting you’re still on grind mode when doing lots of weld, grind, weld. Light weight. Fairly basic headstrap but still comfortable for a full day working. I would absolutely recommend. I’m looking forward to putting it back on tomorrow.

Very good welding helmet I've used it for stick tig mig and flux core and I'm extremely happy with it. Headgear is fairly comfortable for how basic it is, helmet doesnt feel too heavy. The viewing screen is actually larger than the Lincoln viking, the picture is just as clear and I personally think it's a great deal. When it comes to switching lenses changing the outside lense is super easy but changing the inside one is a little more difficult since you need to take the cartridge out of its frame.

The welding helmet has adjustable dimming, very important. Sensitivity can be set so lights or reflections don't cause it to darken. Batteries can be replaced. Grinding switch I do not use, too easy to forget and get zapped. Lenses scratch easily so take care.

Purchase 2 of those 4000 series in the last few years and always the same problem the battery connector breaks after a year working. For the price I wish they would last longer
