DMT FSKC Diafold Serrated Knife Sharpener

I use DMT flat sharpeners for standard cutting tools but for serrated blades, hawksbill knives etc. the DMT tapered rod is by far the best. I'm originally for Western New York State , home of Cutco and Ontario Cutlery. The Cutco serrated blades are notoriously difficult to sharpen but the DMT does a great job. I suggest getting both the coarse and fine (blue and red) versions. It takes a little practice to get the right angle and width when sharpening serrated blades but once you get it figured out sharpening goes pretty quickly. One thing I particularly like about the DMT tool is the diamond chips are attached via brazing or something similar and they do not pull out of the matrix at all. I've probably sharpened 200 times with these tools and they cut just as well now as they did on day one. I also like the folding feature. Perfect for a quick touch up when out in the field.

I buy all DMT sharpeners. This one the plastic seems very brittle and can cracks or break if dropped or held to hard sharpening.

I've used the serrated knife sharpening but have not had the chance to see how it performs over time. So far so good.

Having never sharpened a serrated knife before, I wasn't sure what to expect. I tried this sharpener the day I received it on a 10 inch serrated bread knife. It was fast and easy to use. The results were surprisingly good. Anyone who understands knife sharpening understands the significance of a burr. My bread knife developed a proper burr after 3 or 4 strokes into each serration. I tested the knife on a baguette and it cut very nicely without any tearing at all. I'm impressed and pleased with the purchase.

This is a very high-quality tool, and work well, but after I received it, I found that all my small kitchen knives had a LOT of really small serrations. That makes it very tedious and difficult to use this tool to sharpen them. For a very large bread knife or other large serrated knife, it would be much more practical.

I bought a Woodmans Pal Classic Machete and it has this curved brush hook in it. Well after cutting some brush I needed to sharpen up the hook and this tool is just the ticket. Easy to use, just sharpen under running water like the hose, and I was back in business. This tool is too course for any but the most mistreated kitchen knives but great for yard tools like a Japanese Steel Grass Sickle w/ Wooden Handle #5422
