Natural, refreshing...a great aftershave.
I first used this as a teenager, when my parents gifted me a bottle after returning from a Caribbean cruise. I loved it then, but hadn't used it for over 40 years. Glad I found it again. This is an all- natural aftershave, made with genuine Jamaican rum, bay leaves, clove, cinnamon and I suspect, a bit of vanilla. It tightens and soothes the skin after shaving. BIt burns a little when first applied and smells very strong, but both the burn and the scent subside after ten minutes. The scent is old- school masculine, and I love it. Many people commented on how good I smelled after using it. I think that the price is higher than what I should have paid for it, but was worth the price overall. Highly recommended, if you want a masculine, no- frills skin toning brew to slap on youyr face after the daily scrape.

Not as spicy as anticipated . . .
I have not tried this product in many years. It doesn't have the strong spicy masculine aroma that it had back in the day. It is more floral and feminine than the old stuff. It smells like vanilla incense. If you don't like it, your wife will probably use it.

Heavenly natural scents!!
I absolutely love it. I got it as a gift for a friend, but he did not like it, and so I am going to wear it myself, even though I’m a woman. I like the scent of it, when I’m just at home by myself. It does smell very masculine, so I wouldn’t really want to wear it out. It’s a little bit like old spice, but it’s much more sophisticated and it’s a very old, classy men’s fragrance—distinctly masculine.

Bay leaves? Botanical oils? Why are those seemingly absent from the actual list of ingredients?
I still don't know what Bay R(h)um is SUPPOSED to smell like, since there's no agreed-upon baseline out there. I'm a little put off that – despite the high price for St. John – their claim that it's made from actual bay leaves (an apparently quickly-diminishing ingredient out there): "Made with Bay Leaves from The Virgin Islands" and "Soothing botanical oils leave a lasting manly scent while calming the skin," their list of INGREDIENTS (as appearing on the Amazon product page I ordered from) lists only the following: "Ingredients SD Alcohol 40, Water, Fragrance, FD&C Yellow No. 9, FD&C Red No. 4, FD&C Blue No. 1". Where are the bay leaves? Where are the "botanical oils"? Maybe "Fragrance" is used to reference them? I didn't want to think I was simply paying $20 above other seemingly-comparable Bay R(h)um fragrances just for the fancy bottle in use here (a bit less impressive in person than in the photos - though it's great if it's indeed "hand-woven" as stated - but who knows. As for the scent, it's definitely okay – a lot of "cloveiness," which I actually like – but I'm still looking for something that smells "like the islands," or at least "summer-y," and for me, this isn't it. Also, it fades quickly; they advise spraying it 2-4 times for a "lasting scent," so that suggests its inherently short-lived. (Amazon appears to have flagged the above comments as being favorable WRT scent, softness (whatever that is) and longevity – but I find that not to be a really accurate reflection of my comments.)
