Acceptance and Commitment Therapy For Dummies Review: Great, thorough introduction to ACT. - I am a former counselor using this as a fresh way to look at ingrained issues I want to change for myself. Don't let the "dummies" title deter you. This is well researched and comprehensive. The information is arranged in way that makes learning and a applying the information easy. Review: An excellent primer on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy - Although I've never been a fan of the name of the "For Dummies" series (anyone who picks up a book with the goal of learning is no dummy), this volume was recommended to me by an ACT practitioner and I'm so glad I bought it. It is the perfect guide to learning and practicing the principles of ACT. Sure, there are more comprehensive guides. But if you're a beginner - and whether you want to learn ACT as a layperson because you've heard what a great guide it is for living your best life or you're a clinician wanting to use these interventions in your practice - this is a book you'll want to buy and refer to again and again.

Useful content. It's made a difference in my life.
I went through a class on this topic, the book is helping out on some of the things that weren;t clear in the class. I suspect this will become part of my permanent playlist, like Burns' Feeling Good.

After having read quantities of books about ACT, “Act for Dummies” is – unless you want to get a Ph.D. in it – the best book for “dumb” people who want to understand AND PRACTICE ACT. It’s a simple book, it’s direct, it’s clear, it works! Great job.

This is an excellent starter and reference book that I very much enjoyed reading. I didn’t know much about ACT until recently and this well written book has helped my understanding. Part 1 explains the basics and lays out the model clearly. Part 2 goes into some of the underlying concepts in more detail and explains how ACT emerged from a new theory of language, RFT. Part 3 and 4 then show how ACT is being applied across a range of different issues and areas. This way you can read about the topic or issues that you are most interested in understanding from an ACT perspective. Highly recommended as an introductory book.

Left this book a little time after delivery to read it as I was at an emotionally challenging time in my life. The initiatives it asks a person to try and the ways it suggests of helping a person to overcome their woes is excellent and easy to follow. Because of this a person gets the most beneficial way of feeling better quicker. Read this book and equip yourself with little ways that you can try, which will support a person in the long run, and keep their head above water.
