The book that started it all
This is where it all began (almost). Jamie Delano's take on John Constantine is gritty, cunning and as definitive as it can be. All the stories are really awesome, and the 2 issue Swamp Thing crossover is also good. Regarding the physical quality, the pages are really better than the other ones that I have, this could be because I received new DC Black Label edition of the book. Delivery was also prompt, and no corner got folded (sigh). Overall, 10/5.

VERTIGO rocks. Love you DC Comics.
I read a lot of graphic novels and I can say Constantine has been my best experience so far and this first Volume introduces us to the character and why he is Vertigo/DC's crown jewel.Constantine is arguably the greatest con-man, occult detective and master of the Dark Arts. An anti-hero, he's selfish, arrogant and doesn't give two cents about putting people in danger around him as long he gets the job done. But at the end, he does the right thing despite the sacrifices required. He's exceptionally cunning and tricks even the Devil and his lackeys when his magic is fruitless. This volume gives us some of his best stories and also guest stars Swamp Thing.Start your Constantine collection with this volume.

The beginning of a saga of a lifetime!
The writing is absolutely brilliant. The dark, gritty artwork makes this feel so much grounded. The pure cynicism of Constantine is contagious. And tragic.

Decent
Got for around 800. Nails the whole sparse depressing tone but the stories are a bit wobbly, a bit on the good side of okay-ish. Paper quality is also a bit cheap. Overall I'd have been happy if it was cheaper

A blast from the past... Irrestible and unstoppable.
Constantine is Constant reminder of the world we live in and the world that was. As a character, John is more human than most protagonists ever created..Well, DC may not like it but Deadpool for me is at the same level....

Wow never read any Constantine before, been parts of other comics but not a solo one
And it was great. I loved the way it centered on a bunch of different stories in one volume. And holds true with the title original sins. The writing and dialogue and characters are all amazing. The ghosts he has in his life are a great tie in too. I really enjoyed this on so many levels. Funny, sad, mad, upsetting, heroic, cowardly, all of it. And I liked the art and the way the story is also told in 3rd person or whatever its called lol when the main character is in the story but also from his perspective when thinking (what we're reading). Definitely, highly recommend reading this and more.

The Beginning of a Hard Long Road to Hell and Back
Oi! You want to read something different from all other "edgy" titles? Would you like to see the real beginnings of "adult oriented mainstream comics" and how yhe started? Well, this onee here it the godfather of the "Vertigo era" of DC Comics. Mind you, the art's wonky! The colors... can be best described as "lurid." Late 80s coloring processes were to blame, but the pages work, alright? You can't argue with the Classics, mate.Them stories? From dense to touching, filled with purple-prose-powered plots and terrible thing in tandem, this is one of those seminal moments in comics' history where all of that plus the "exotism" of having a British (a Long verpudlian, nonetheless!) dealing with the more unpleasant side of the main DC universe.A perfect way to start reading the unfolding drama thta is the kife of one John Constantine (and understanding what was going on during the 80s). One heck of a ride, that's for sure.Highly recommended.

And so it begins.....
This really is where it all started. The Swamp Thing appearances were just a prelude.Constantine fans and future writers owe Jamie Delano a big debt of gratitude. He laid the foundation of John the anti-hero, the self-described "nasty piece of work" who walks his path alone. Read "A Feast of Friends" (stupidly dumbed down in the TV series. Such a waste of the superb Matt Ryan's talents) to find out why you wouldn't want to walk it with him. "Ghosts in the Machine" reveals how he got another staple, his dose of demon blood. "Waiting for the Man" (again bowdlerised for the TV) introduces Zed.These are good, gritty, unsentimental Constantine stories, enhanced by John Ridgeway's art and fairly decent colouring.A great start to the Hellblazer collection. If you like these you'll definitely want more. JC is addictive!
