What exactly are "nature identical" extracts?

I actually purchased this item as a gift, so I never drank any of the tea and cannot comment on any of the flavors represented. However, according to the Wikipedia entry on "Flavor" (at ), "Due to the high cost or unavailability of natural flavor extracts, most commercial flavorants sic, or is that even a word are 'nature-identical,' which means that they are the chemical equivalent of natural flavors, but chemically synthesized rather than being extracted from source materials." I personally have no problem with synthesized versus so-called "natural" ingredients (at some level it's all chemicals), but some people do. The person to whom I sent the tea collection never complained--and she is someone who prefers "all-natural" ingredients.
