how does this compare with National Geographic mega fossil dig kit?

Although we have purchased some National Geographic kits, we have not specifically had the fossil dig kit. The only thing that I can really say is that in general the Smithsonian and National Geographic kits are all very similar. I can tell you that the fossils were just ok so I don't think that the National Geographic kit would be any less impressive. We did have fun uncovering the fossils though which is the idea.

About what age group do you recommend for this?

I gave this to my 3 year old nephew, who needed a lot of help and supervision with it, but he got the idea and had a great time getting nice and dusty looking for fossils! Ideally though, the kid would probably be a little older, maybe 5 and up? Especially if the idea is that they’ll do it mostly on their own.

How large are the fossils?

I purchased this as a Christmas gift...won't be opened until Dec 25....sorry
