Does anyone know what these two extra red pieces that were packed with the projectiles are for? I haven't been able to figure out where they go.

My husband says they are simply extra pieces that were used to hold other pieces in place for packing and shipping.

Yes it is! My kid's also 4 and there is no complicated mechanics to it, just turns by knobs, no electronics. Great item to have for a Batman Fan!
