LED lights can not be turned off alone, they can be turned off together with the mouse.

Q: Which mode is more reliable? I seem to have problems getting the mouse recognized at times.

I have the Silver one and use it with my MacBook. There are times that for some reason it will not connect and I have to turn it off and back on. I have had this issue my my spare bluetooth wireless mouse. I have never used either with the USB adapter. I have only used it on my MacBook and not my Windows laptop. I have always thought it was just the MacBook being it's difficult self. Otherwise the battery last a long time (very impressed). Hope this helped.
