Hi, do make sure that you are using the large dicer blade.

How do you use the finger guard?

Use the guard when using the slicer. Pierce the vegetable securely and slide it across the slicing blade. The guard keeps your fingers safely away from the very sharp blade. You don't need the guard for chopping but be careful when handling the chopping inserts. They are very sharp too (which is why they work so brilliantly!).
