I started taking this 3 or 4 days ago and haven't had any high blood pressure or heart pounding feelings since. I didn't buy it for that reason and had no idea this was the magical ingredient I'd been missing. I have tried so many supplements, vitamins. herbs to try and stop this pounding, which was getting increasingly worse. I used to feel it in my entire body but then a few months ago I started really feeling it in my head. It's just gone. I googled other benefits of lutein besides eye health, and they do mention cardiovascular but again, I tried so many other supplements that are supposed to lower BP and they did nothing. I do know that anemia can cause high BP and heart rate, and one of the things lutein does is help a specific iron storage protein. So maybe that's it because it shouldn't be a magic bullet for blood pressure over every other herb and supplement I've tried, unless there's an unusual reason for mine being high and lutein just happens to have solved whatever that is. My legs have also stopped twitching and seizing up at night and anemia can be a cause of restless legs which makes me think it's the iron protein connection. Here is the paragraph I found online about that. "The mitochondrion also possesses iron storage capacity by mitochondrial ferritin, which provides protection against oxidative damage. In this study, we examined the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of lutein in the presence of H2O2 in BV-2 microglia and its possible role in the regulation of iron metabolism. Based on our results we suppose that lutein acts against ROS production and decreases inflammation by reducing TNFα secretion and increasing IL-10. Lutein influenced mitochondrial iron homeostatis by increasing mitochondrial iron storage protein levels and by modulating heme and iron sulfur cluster syntheses."

This contained MANY other ingredients besides the AREDS2 ones and when we read the box we decided that we would like to return it. NO returns were allowed. We won't buy THIS again!!!!!

I was getting blurry vision particularly on long drives which are part of my daily work. Since taking these vits this blurry issue has completely disappeared. I was pretty sceptical but they do seem to have made a big difference!

After a friend recently went through detached retinal surgery due to age-related macular deterioration (scleral buckle surgery – very unpleasant, and he's only 48), he was advised that Lutein and Zeaxanthin supplements would be beneficial for ongoing eye-health. Although I don’t have any specific eye issues now, I figure prevention is much better than cure. These are also now vegetarian (new recipe). The correct ratio of these key ingredients for maximum benefit is apparently 10mg Lutein, 10mg Meso-zeaxanthin and 2mg Zeaxanthin. These 3 carotenoids protect the eye (and the brain - who knew!?). When they’re combined, they are more powerful than they are on their own, individually. I’m not a fan of chewable tablets – they’re normally pretty revolting as I can taste the underlying chemicals. At first I tried swallowing this table whole. It’s a bit big and didn’t go down too well. The next time, I bravely decided to chew. I was very pleasantly surprised. It is “bilberry” - a sweet fruity flavour and really was very agreeable in taste and texture. I’ve had a look at some of the other Macular tablets around, and I’m concerned. Not only do they have random nutritional ratios on their info table, they can’t even spell the key ingredients. I’d rather pay a little bit more for a quality product from an established, specialist and legitimate company (like Macushield) than a cheap generic Chinese imported brand, which has any number of unknown ingredients (given they can’t even spell the key components).

Purchased for someone who cant easily swallow tablets so these are ideal. They do make your teeth, tongue and lips pretty orange though, so you need to chew them quite a while before going out !
