What is the difference between this and the quart plus?

Though it does not say so, this appears to be the gourmet whip plus. You can tell because of the red color and in the description it states that it can be used for hot and cold applications. The model lower has black detailing and is only for cold applications. The model above this one is the thermo whip plus. It does have the red coloring but has a slightly stouter appearance because of the thicker walls. The thermo whip plus is different because it is insulated like a thermos and will keep the contents hot or cold for hours without refrigeration or a hot water bath. I hope this helps.

Is it possible to get the container (bottom part) separately? I like the size of this one, but I see myself wanting a smaller one on occasions

I don't know if you can buy the canister part separately, but I believe you can get the complete product in different sizes. Thus, perhaps when the time comes you can simply buy another one of a smaller size.

Pretty sure red is for hot and cold, black is cold only.
