Excellent information that anyone taking a statin drug needs to know and evaluate. The mortality statistics of statin users as opposed to people who didn't take them are less than a 1% difference! This doctor cites the statistics with references to studies. Bet your primary care doctor has never mentioned that one! Heck, I bet they don't know that themselves. Considering the side effects of statin drugs it's sure not worth it to me. My doctor looked me straight in the eye and told me that there was no way to reverse the plaque buildup in our arteries! People used to take niacin, it's cheap and effective but you can't use the "no flush" or slow release type, has to be the kind that will give you the famous niacin flush. Also, research the use of nattokinase and serrapeptase also. Read the reviews for them right here on Amazon, doesn't matter what brand. The only drawback is that your insurance won't cover them--for me it's worth it to pay outright and avoid the pharmaceuticals. It blows my mind how few people bother to investigate the pharmaceuticals that they're taking. This book covers a broad base of common medical conditions but I primarily was interested in avoiding statins. Since reading it, my husband has stopped taking the one he's been on for several years and has joined me in taking the natural supplements suggested by Dr. Brownstein.

If you are one of the majority of Americans currently funding Big Pharma with your monthly meds, this is a must read. I learned how most drugs are marketed not because they heal, or make you healthier, but because Big pharma funds crooked studies to make you think youll be better off taking their poison than making some healthy lifestyle changes. The author goes over the most common seven conditions or drugs in America- Cholesterol blood pressure type 2 diabetes depression anti inflammatories etc, and shows why you are WORSE off if you take the drug. We are being duped into taking something that makes us sicker in the long run- and better customers for drug manufacturers.

I appreciate and enjoy all of Dr. Brownstein's books. All are helpful. This book covers only a few disease processes, and does so very well, but it is limited to just those ones for the most part. Discussed are cholesterol issues, osteoporosis, antacids, depression, anti-inflammation and HRT. Disease process and what Big Pharma drugs usually prescribed for these diseases are explained in what they do to your body. Other, less damaging interventions are given. If you are taking any drugs for these disorders, this book is well worth your time to read.

I personally think we are a people who have forgotten how to have a good life without pills. Since I started taking a real interest in what food can offer and not take medicine that food can replace, I feel great! Lost 38 pounds in just under two months and was shocked! I wasn't even trying to lose, just feel better and get blood pressure and such to a normal level. Both things happened. I enjoy the food I eat now, much more than what my diet was all my life. I sleep better and take pride in myself for following through in studying what is good for me and making the decision to do better. I lecture my friends now and they have made changes too. Their health problems are drastically reduced, and they now want me to teach them more as I read and learn.

I really like this book and can see myself referring to it for a long time to come. Some drugs that we use just don't really do much and there are natural remedies that are so much better for us. This book helps us to understand the why's about how drugs or remedies work or don't work.

I knew that statins damaged the heart but didn't have the information to understand how statins damage the necessary heart's needs. I found the information in this book and promptly sent this copy to my son who takes statins to control his cholesterol. I am thankful for this informative book. It is very well researched should you be taking any of the drugs Brownstein evaluates for the damage you can get from taking certain drugs. Personally, I have been using alternative health care and do not take drugs at age 76.

Interesting read, as is all the material Dr. Brownstein puts out there. Good information to help us understand the thinking of mainstream medicine and how to avoid their increasing blunders by going with approaches that do work -- like identifying the cause and treating it, not the symptoms. Dr. Brownstein explains how the medicine is suppose to work adn how that happens in our bodies -- or too often why it doesn't help our bodies.

Everyone should read this book!!! Don't be fooled by your doctors who are all trained by the right prescription drug for every symptom!
