Perfect Combination of Sound Machine and Night Light
This Hatch Rest has been absolutely essential for our baby's sleep routine since bringing her home from the hospital. The combination of customizable white noise and gentle night light in one device eliminates the need for multiple gadgets on the nightstand, and the Bluetooth control means I can adjust settings without entering the room and potentially waking her. The sound quality is excellent with a wide variety of white noise options, nature sounds, and lullabies. The volume range goes from whisper-quiet for light sleepers to loud enough to mask household noise during naps. What I love most is being able to create custom programs that automatically adjust throughout the night - starting with a brighter light and louder sound for bedtime, then dimming to very low light and softer sound for overnight comfort. The app control is incredibly convenient, especially for those middle-of-the-night adjustments. I can fine-tune the light color and brightness or change sound options without getting up, which has prevented countless sleep disruptions. The 2017 Bluetooth-only model works perfectly with my phone, though the range is adequate for typical bedroom use. Build quality feels solid and child-safe. The touch controls on top work well, and the night light provides just the right amount of illumination for nighttime diaper changes without being too stimulating. The variety of color options helps create the perfect ambiance for different times of day. After 18 months of nightly use, it's still going strong with no technical issues. Our toddler has become so accustomed to her Hatch routine that it's become an essential sleep cue. Absolutely worth the investment - this device has improved our entire family's sleep quality significantly.

Best white noise machine we've ever had & we're not even using to full potential
HIGHLY RECOMMEND - My son is 6, he has always been a very light sleeper and we've been through MANY white noise machines over the years. I was actually very happy with our current one, however, he had an "ok to wake" clock as well as a star projector all on his nightstand and it was just too crowded. I paid about the same for our current white noise machine, so the price wasn't a big factor for me. PROS: -lights: color and brightness both fully customizable. -volume: many kids white noise machines aren't loud enough for us (we live on a very busy corner, lots of honking and fire station nearby) Not the case with this one, at max volume, its WAY too loud. -loops: as he's gotten older, my son has complained of being able to hear loops or patterns in the sounds (usually with varied sounds like rain or babbling brook). Neither the wind or TV sounds have discernable loops -quality: the sound quality and speaker are both great. We've had some that had flat/tinny sounds before. -ease of use: easy to download and connect to the app -programmability: this has been by FAR the greatest feature. I've set up 4 different auto on/off programs for SLEEP, WAKE, WEEKDAY, WEEKEND. Orange light w/sound =stay in bed and comes on at 7:30 pm Sun-Thurs and 8:00 pm Fri-Sat. Green light (with same sound and volume so as to not accidentally wake him up if he's slept in) = ok to get out of bed comes on at 7:00 am M-F and 7:30 am Sat-Sun. I have the green light & sounds turn off at 7:30 on school days and 8 am on weekends. CON: -the ONLY hiccup we've had was the very first morning after programming. I had to manually turn it on the night before (since I set it at 7:45 pm which was after the weekday "stay in bed" timer should have started) so the next morning it was still in "manual" mode and the green light never turned on. I noticed around 7:10 am when I heard him singing to himself, so I used the app to manually adjust the light color to green and heard him "ooh and ahh" in amazement. Since that first night, we haven't had any trouble with the timers. I've also turned on the toddler lock so he can't put it back into manual mode. BONUS: -less bedtime struggle: I'm no longer to the one enforcing bedtime - when the Hatch comes on, he knows it is time to go to bed and there's no arguing for or whining to the Hatch for "just 5 more minutes". We just got an Echo Dot and I saw there was an Alexa integration. I read up on the features and really wish this had been around when he was an infant. You can log diapers, sleep times, nursing times, pumping times and all kinds of other cool stuff. Even so, as our all in 1 night light, white noise, wake timer - this thing has been amazing!

Best thing I've ever purchased. Changed our life.
I am not exaggerating when I say this is the best baby product I've ever bought. I have a 2 year old who refuses to sleep through the night. Bedtime is an hour long ordeal of her repeatedly getting out of bed, playing, and not falling asleep. Its a battle. Then throughout the night she wakes up constantly from night terrors, bad dreams, needing to pee, or some other random thing. And in the mornings she gets out of bed hours before day break and insists on it being "good morning." She wasn't sleeping, we weren't sleeping. NO ONE WAS SLEEPING. I'd heard good things about the Hatch, and bought it out of desperation. We tried everything before throwing money at the issue and even the cheaper ok to wake clock was garbage compared to Hatch. Hatch has changed our lives. Set up and programming took less than 5 minutes. SO EASY. Easier than setting my own alarm clock. The colors are vibrant, and the range in brightness is amazing. The sounds are great quality - not tinny, can't hear the loop repeat, and are calming. The toddler lock setting is perfect. I am not making this up - this thing works. It provided a 3rd party "being" to tell my daughter when its bedtime. We taught her the motto "When its red, stay in bed" and "green means good morning." She was 100% on board the first few nights. stayed in bed at bedtime, slept well, and didnt get up before it turned green. We were finally able to sleep. My assumed science behind Hatch: Seeing a light that indicates its bedtime gives her the security to know its still time to sleep and to stay asleep. Not having the light gave her anxiety and uncertainty about when it would be time to get up. Waking and seeing red gave her a quick and certain clue that she needed to still sleep. She feels more confident in herself and less anxious about bedtime and mornings. Its been a week of Hatch, and things are only getting better. She was waking up 5 times a night crying for us and the past 2 nights hasnt woken up crying even once. Bedtime is still a bit of a struggle but its still better than it was. I will 100% get another Hatch for our 2nd baby and hopefully nip all of these toddler issues in the bud since we'd have it from the beginning. I can't recommend this light enough.

One of the best purchases for us and baby 💗
This really is an incredible product. I'm so happy that I came across this. I was going to order a sound machine/light that was either a third or half the cost, but after research, I decided to go w this one. First off the design is clean and beautiful. It can be used as a nightlight as well. The sounds are so crisp and soothing and realistic. The colors are beautiful. The sensor is insanely practical- along with the phone app to control. I've had this for 2 months. At first, I plugged it in and it didn't turn on. I thought it was broken and was pretty bummed. So I emailed the company explaining what was going on, and I received a reply almost immediately. Really- in the next hour maybe. Super soon.. so it turned out there's a small reset hole on the bottom or side I just had to poke it with a paper clip. I just moved my baby to her own room, but before that she was in a bassinet in our room. If she would wake in the middle of the night and cry, I would just change the static or rain sound to a lullaby FROM MY PHONE APP (Bluetooth) and she would by quiet and go back to sleep. I didn't have to get out of bed! I use this for my 7 month olds naptimes- I just tap the top and walk out of the room. I also set it for her to sleep at night without color and with the lullaby playing. I have my favorites preset- I loooove the colors and the rainbow option. They're constantly working to improve the product (I've received 2-3 emails either updating me on new software or them asking what they can do to improve.. it doesn't even need improvement but what they have changed/updated is amazing.. for example- a toddler option so toddlers can't change the settings or the sound scale so you can see how loud or how quiet the sound is. I can't say enough good things about this sound machine. And also, a phenomenal company. she and we both will get (and already get) a lot of use out of this, so the price really is a good investment.

By far and away the best sound machine/nightlight/sleep timer out there
By far and away the best sound machine/nightlight/sleep timer out there. Replaced a sound maker, a nightlight, a time-to-wake clock with one very fashionable unit. Key features/improvements: -Nightlight. It's adjustable. It's different colors. My kid can mess with changing it by touching the top ring without access to all the other settings. -Soundmaker. It's a symphonic masterpiece compared to other units. There's a wide variety of very nice sounds, not just one or two. And it doesn't revert to a creepy heartbeat sound if the power in my house goes out. -Phone control. Not wifi control, that scares me. But Bluetooth, so if you're going to hack it you need to be doing it from my house. It allows for control of all functions from the app. A very user-friendly app that puts far more engineered ones to shame (I'm talking to you, DirecTV). I no longer need to run off with the time-to-wake clock so my kid doesn't see how to access the back panel. I don't need to press 5000 buttons to change time or change time-to-wake. Kid wants it bright because he's scared? I can turn it back down from his door after he's asleep. Dinner party, so cranked the volume? Ditto. -It's (mildly) interactive, and that's been a lifesaver. Every other unit required a draconian "don't touch it!" policy, strictly enforced so the kid wouldn't change the time-to-wake to 2am, turn the volume up, etc. With the Hatch he can play with it a bit, change colors and sounds, but nothing that would be a problem. And again, it's completely customizable. I didn't love one of the default colors (white), so I just changed it to purple. My kids are too old for the nursery music sounds to be useful, so I disabled them. Now he's got 6 colors/sounds to choose from, all totally ok. When we bought the Hatch, our 5yo was in a budding scared-of-the-dark phase. We ended up with the door cracked open and 3 nightlights. He'd come out a few times and need to be reassured. We told him the hatch was especially for kids who were scared of the dark, and he could change it to whatever color made the scariness go away. It was just a spur-of-the-moment parent white lie, but to our amazement it's been a week and he hasn't come back out and while we can see the color change for 10 minutes or so after putting him to bed (meaning he's messing with it), it's basically cured the problem. YMMV, but we're ordering 2 more for our 2 other kids. At the worst, it's $20 more than any individual sound machine or time-to-wake light, $20 less than the combination, is a joy to program, and looks downright fancy to boot. Obviously, we like this product very much, but that's not really surprising given how superior it is both technologically and from a design perspective than any of the other units out there.

Must Have Baby Items!!!
We love Hatch - we love their products (Hatch Rest, Hatch Rest+, Hatch Grow) and we love their customer service. We were gifted the Hatch Grow to change and weigh our baby since birth. The app is amazing - I use it everyday to track baby’s diapers, feeding sessions, weight/growth (even shows percentiles!), sleeping, and pumping all in one app. Then, we were gifted the Hatch Rest as a sound machine for our baby and we found it very useful. Our baby slept so well with the Hatch Rest and the middle of the night feedings were so easy with the night light that I could dim/brighten with my app without waking baby. I thought to myself that it would be really nice if there were a block on this device. Lo and behold, they came out with the Hatch Rest+ that is portable!!!, a sound monitor, clock, white noise machine, night light, and monitor to speak to baby (which we will use when baby is older). I love that you can dim the clock light so it isn’t too bright at night right from your app, and the white sound machine and light features are the best. I took the Hatch Rest+ with us during our getaways to create a comfortable space for our baby during travels, and baby slept so well! When we had issues with their firmware updates for the Hatch Rest+, I sent them questions via email and Abby and Courtney immediately replied with answers, solutions, clear instructions with pictures, etc. Their customer service is superb and exemplary! They even sent me a new Hatch Plus+ just in case ours was a faulty one, and sent us a set of three coverlets of our choice for our patience during their app and firmware updates. I highly recommend Hatch to all my mama friends! Every new, old, startup/ developing companies that sell baby items need to look at Hatch as a leader!

Program setting could use some work...
TLDR; I would buy it again, just REALLY wish it had batteries and future updates will include a toddler lock switch and a program end time. *crosses fingers* First of all, I love the quality of the sound machine (gets super loud and good variety of noises) and the ability to change color is fun. Being able to control it from my phone is FANTASTIC. Love that it’s Bluetooth. Two major downsides for me: there is no battery capability and toddler lock only works when it’s on a program. We are still working on training our little guy (2.5 yrs) to not touch the light (unplug it), because when he does, it turns off and my ability to control anything remotely is gone. Also, if the power goes out, he wakes up because his light and sound have just shut off. I have bought really cheap sound machines that have a battery option and this $60 one doesn’t? (I recognize the plus has batteries, but I’m not going to pay $30 just for a battery option especially when I don’t want a Wifi enabled machine.) Sometimes when it’s plugged back in, it forgets that it was in the middle of a set program which is the only way to enable a toddler lock. If I want the toddler lock enabled, I have to go into the program and reset the time to one minute from now so that in a few seconds, it will start the program and resume toddler lock. I don’t put him to bed at the exact same minute every day, so any time he goes to bed or nap, I’m resetting a program. Kind of defeats the purpose of a program, I know, but it’s the only way to get the toddler lock to work. Also keep in mind when setting a program, you can’t just set an “off time”. It only lets you set an amount of time. So if I start his program at 8pm, and I want it to go until 7:30am, I have to input 11.5 hours. Not 7:30am. Doesn’t seem like a big deal until you are resetting the program all the time (for reasons I just explained) and when you change the start time, the end time will flux as well. Why can’t I just want it off at 7:30am instead of 11.5 hours? AN EASY SOLUTION: create a toddler lock on/off switch on the app so I could simply turn on the machine whenever I was ready and lock it instead of having to set a new program every single time and wait until the next minute passed. And if he unplugged it, I didn’t have to worry about it resetting and me having to start the program over again. I feel like he is close to figuring it out and we have only been using it for about 2 weeks, but it could have been a much simpler and less frustrating process with these two features. One thing I did to try and get around a toddler lock is I turned off all the “Favorites” settings except for one which matches the setting on my program (white light + ocean). That way if the toddler lock is off and he touches it, it will switch to the favorite setting which is identical so nothing changes. He can still turn the volume up or down, but he hasn’t figured that out yet.

love it! here's the pros and cons
**UPDATE** About 2 months ago, I received a notice that the Hatch Baby Rest has been update and they sent us a new one because they want to ensure customers have the best (First note - that is just EXCELLENT customer service). I must say, it is amazing! Almost all previous notes had been addressed! 1. Range of volume is significantly more broad This made a difference, especially with time. As my son got older, I am starting to lower the volume so he gets used to silence but also not rely on the Hatch Baby. JUST as I felt like the lowest volume on the previous model was fine, but slightly on the louder side, they sent this updated version which not only has a wider range, but I still have room to lower the volume even more in the future. 2. They changed the plug adapter. Previously it was like a phone charger. Now it is a real adapter which is sturdier, more secure and less likely to get yanked out by my child. 3. The app is a lot more user friendly and customizable. It is still simple but before the update, it may have been TOO simple. The only thing I’d wish they’d do is make shortcuts to my favorites. For example, when I set the schedule, you have to set the volume and light brightness, but I wish I could just set my favorite setting during that schedule. 4. THE FADE! I mentioned before how it transitioned very abruptly and I wished it would have been smooth - they fixed it! 5. Lastly, they did NOT address the light. Which I think may just be preference. Currently this device is meant to be a night light. It does just that. I wished there could be a ‘night light’ setting and ‘lamp’ setting that I could switch back and forth from and also had brightness levels. Sometimes I need to change his diaper in the middle of the night and would like to be able to see without turning on the light and this would be helpful. Other than that, works just as a night light which is nice to see the room as I shuffle around. *previous review* I never write reviews, however, I love this product so much, I really want to provide some feedback so if the company ever chooses to update, these are really easy features to add to make it even more spectacular. (note: my son is 3.5 months) (1) multi function: a. night light PROs: has several color options. this may not be a big deal for others, but the fact that orange, red and yellow hues enhance and help sleep for both baby and me is a major plus. then green and blue are cool tones that help with waking up (for me now while the baby is young, and then for him when he's a little older). then with the cute sleeves to add later, i think the color options would help with his development visually and mentally CONs: light is not bright enough depending on size of room. i switched rooms and in our master the light was so low at the highest setting i couldn't see to breastfeed in the middle of the night (let alone change a diaper!). i ended up having to add back my lamp that has a baby sensitive bulb just to see. would be nice of it had more of a range and could functions as a lamp in addition to night light mode. (i will say though, in the nursery, the light was JUST right at the highest setting) b. sound machine PROs: NOT ON A LOOP, which is a big deal. i've had to return a previous device because it was on a loop and i could hear the click with my sensitive ears. there are also several options in noises, and my son really enjoys the soothing music to wake up to. all the noises are naturally recorded rather than electronically made so it's realistic CONs: there is a lot of opportunity here! when the device turns on or off and even when i change from one sound to another, it is VERY abrupt. i wished there was a fade in / out when turned on / off, or a smooth transition from one sound to another when switching. some times my son is asleep and i am stepping out of the room so i turn on the Rest, i have to move very fast to turn the sound all the way down and manually fade it in so not to shock him awake. i've also read other reviews that when the device is on all night, it has defects where the volume changes randomly - this happened to me too. i though i had a defected unit and called amazon for a replacement, the new one does it too! (here's the kicker, when mine adjusts the volume by itself, it does it as a fade! so it can be done!). lastly, i wished there was also 'heartbeat', 'vacuum' and 'stove fan'. (2) control options: a. top ring: such a clean look and powerful speaker with a single ring you and turn the device on / off by. it is VERY sensitive though, so be careful not to bump into it when the baby is sleeping or it will switch to your next 'favorite' setting b. base controls: nicely hidden from your child if they're very curious and can be 'toddler locked' from your phone c. bluetooth from your phone: this is what won me over. in the middle of the night when you are sleep deprived, and you just want to adjust the volume.....SOLD. HOWEVER, note that all reviews have a warning that this is BLUETOOTH and not WIFI so i've noticed i will need to be like 10ft from the Rest in order to control it. this is a bit frustrating since it is supposed to be 30ft and i can't even control the volume from the bedroom door.... also 'favorites' can only be activated by the top ring, you cannot select a 'favorite' from your phone to play.....not cool overall, i love this device and look forward to using it for the years to come! one feature i'm not sure if it's possible, but since it is already connect via bluetooth, if i could play my own music as well such as mini dance parties or youtube itsy bitsy spider or whatnot, that would put this over the top!!!
