Q: is there a firmware update or something to make this less loud?

There is no firmware update, you need to lower the volume.

Q: My understanding is that grado headphones are built in the usa, why does amazon say the country of origin is china?

Not all Grado headphones are assembled in the US, the GW100 is made in China.

yea, its still works great but think it would have been much better for them to redesigned one of their premium wired sets to use a blue tooth dongle like the SR325X instead of it.

Q: I have a big head, can the band be bent at all so it's not crushing my skull?

There is a metal band that runs through the headband and can be bent to loosen or tighten the pressure on the head
