Q: how many come with this product? can it be taped aswell to keep further in place?

I am not sure about your question: how many come with this product. They sold each individually if that's what U ask. U don't have to tape and that's why they required U to provide ring size so they want it to be snug fit. Also U can turn it either way to benefit your problem. I hope that I answer your question.

Might work on a thumb. The Oval 8 splints are 1 1/2" long; short thumb might not work. Why not call the manufacturer; they are very helpful.

That is not an issue. Just put it right on your thumb. It will protect the joint
