Very tough and well hardened
Excellent letter punches. They are very very hard. These are not just for soft material like wood etc but they stamp metal very well including steel. They maintain their shape after use and are tough. The only thing wrong with this set is the box. Its great and it works but dont bump it hard. These letter punches are so tough they are very heavy. The box wont survive even a little drop. Good product though. Will last a long time.

Quality Stamp at a great price!
Quality stamp that tackled aluminum, steel, and brass with ease. The included storage box makes it easy to store when not in use. Great value and I'll be back to get the other sizes.

ruined 3 starrett hacksaw blade. incredible hardness.
hacksaw letter tops to ID marker the letters. scratching a line on the front of each letter shaft to avoid confusion. slicked up the box with a little poly. nice set now. put in the tool box. much nicer now than my old Hanson set and marks walnut and cherry well. Top value too.

Functional for many materials, bit tricky to align
I purchased these with intent to use in leather work. Was surprised when they came that they are much heaviers and stronger than I expected- good. I have found they work well for wood, leather, some plastics and aluminum.Solid steel shanks and capable of taking a ballpeen blow they can be worked hard. It took some time for me to come up with a spacing guide so that letters/numbers were evenly spaced in pleasing manner. Now find myself stamping names onto handles of kitchen tools I make for friends and family.

It's difficult to keep text aligned
Works ok on leather and wood. However, the letters are not easily aligned.

Perfect for Labeling
I got this to stamp details onto soft metal tags for my wife's plantings. This has been perfect -- a couple of quick bangs with a hammer, and I have an indelible tag with the new plant's details. It's solid, too, and looks like it could take some abuse. SPECIAL NOTE: the set I bought has large letters and numbers, about double the size of dogtag lettering. Be sure to pick a set with the right size lettering you need.
