Graphitti Designs Buddy Christ Dashboard Statue, White, Red, Gold and Flesh

I was thunderstruck when I saw the film "Dogma" - as a Christian, and a Catholic, I was amazed by the fresh ideas in the film. I'm a fan of George Carlin, the comedian, and seeing him in the role of a "doctor of the Church" was hilarious, albeit totally irreverant. But I thought the notion of depicting Jesus as a life affirming, happy savior who approves of humanity (despite all our shortcomings) was uplifting. I bought this irreverant little statuette because I like thinking about Jesus as an affirming Son of the Diety. He is usually depicted as sorrowful, disappointed (he sure looks disappointed in us in most of the pictures and statues I've seen). Life is tough - it's even tougher now, with so many people becoming disaffected by religion. This is a positive image, worth looking at everyday - as it stands atop my TV. I like it a lot!

When I came across this on Amazon it brought back memories. To be honest I had completely forgot about Buddy Christ. After it jarred my memory I couldn't stop thinking about Dogma and the early Kevin Smith days. They just don't make movies like that anymore. In any event, I had to order this. If not as a tribute to the movie, then an inexpensive toy to make people laugh. Buddy Christ really does cheer up the day. I got him on my car dashboard and everytime I get in it makes me crack out a smile. It's like he's literally saying, You're Awesome! I can see how this toy might offend someone of religious nature. Although nothing on it strikes me as directly offensive, it is a slight mockery. Most people like to think of Jesus in the contemporary sense, he gave his life for our sins and we should respect him. Kevin Smith obviously thought it a better idea to revitalize Jesus in the modern eye as a dude who would just plain out let you know you're on the right path. Whichever the result, as a non-religious person who isn't an aethiest but rather just unsure of his beliefs. I can honestly say I don't have any religious monuments in my arsenal of posessions. I never thought I would see the day that I would sport a Jesus statue, as a kid the concept of religion always bored me and as I grew older I never got much into it. So to me, this statue is a positive in that sense. Though I may not be thinking of Christ in the contemporary sense, at least I think about him now and he makes me smile.

I have a biased opinion here, I loved the movie Dogma, I watched it countless times during my adolescence and I find it to be a very unrated, but fantastic movie. I actually bought one of these years earlier...(probably at Sam Goodie...Remember that place? It was in EVERY mall) and the buddy JC has been watching my back ever since, I love it and I'll never part with it (Much to my wife's displeasure). I purchased this religious relic as a gift for my wife's uncle who happened to come over and see my Buddy JC and wanted one himself. Who am I to deny someone the gift of the Buddy JC? I naturally checked Amazon and there he was, in all of his satirical-majestic glory pointing right at you, giving you a warm, comforting wink, and a reassuring thumbs up, letting you know..."Go get'em kid, I got your back." I have him perched on my work bench in my garage pointing right as me when I get in the car so I see him before I go to work in the morning and he always brings a smile to my face. I kind of wish he had a sticky bottom so I can affix him to my dash on my car, but other than that, he's great. He's the Buddy JC

It's interesting because this statue was created as a prop in a movie. The unintended part of this is that it actually has an intended purpose. I won't review the movie. This statue in reality pushes people and especially young ones to question what is going on. It gives you a chance to discuss Jesus with young people who often have no religious background. Plus it's cool.

This is very cool I did not get it because I am a fan of the movie I got it because of my fan of Jesus I like the concept of the buddy Jesus even though in the movie it was presented as a joke the body Jesus when used within the concept has worked well for me to open conversations with people about our savior and it’s cool and looks cool on my dashboard to

How do you like your Jesus? I like to think of my Jesus in one of those t-shirts with a tuxedo printed on the front, y'know? Like he's saying, "Hey, I'm a pretty big deal, but I like to party, too." I also like to think of my Jesus as an eye-winking bro that's got my back. Popularized by a pretty terrible movie featuring Ben Affleck, who is sorta proof positive that if there is indeed a God, he is vengeful and spiteful, Buddy Jesus is the perfect representative of casual spirituality. Instead of promising only an afterlife filled with fire and pointy forks, Buddy Jesus recognizes your all-to-human failings, and you know what? He's alright with it. Forgiveness with a wink and a nod is my kind of theology. For a mere pittance, it can be yours, too.

First thing I want to point out is that this figure is actually 10 centimeters in height, which is about 5 inches. The description is inaccurate. I was a bit disappointed when I received this item because I was under the impression it was taller. However, with that said I do enjoy this piece. It was cheap, goes great with my collection of movie and video game collectibles. Lately I've had it rough and there is no better religion than sacrilegious religion to make you feel better. I do recommend this item to anyone who is looking for something stupid to spend 10-15 dollars on. I do recommend that Amazon change the listing to reflect the actual size of this product. Again it is actually 10 centimeters, approximately 5 inches tall.
