The packaging is retail quality and suitable for gifting to another bird lover. With a natural wood finish, this is a beautiful birdhouse on its own. However, add a 4MP downward facing camera and a self powering solar panel, you are now in possession of a viewing portal into the natural habitat of your favourite birds. Watching birds nesting and eggs hatching is why I ordered this set. The camera is connected to WIFI using the APP(Tris Home APP). The APP is developed by a Chinese company and the security and privacy settings may blur lines. I am not going to delve into the security concerns APP's like these pose, but I could not get the camera to connect my preferred APP Smart Life. This is not saying it is NOT possible, I just could not get it done. WIFI needs to be present and the single need to be strong enough to communicate through your home network, to the bird house. Enough bandwidth must be present to stream the camera feed to your mobile device. Stronger the WIFI signal the better. The APP will alert you of movement in your birdhouse caught on camera. The camera is of decent quality. You can capture photos and videos of your feathered friends. I do recommend charging the camera to 100% with a USB-C cable, before hanging the birdhouse. This will take the strain off the battery, which will be recharging using the solar panel. Solar charging is slower than plugging it in. However, the solar panel will keep your battery life hovering around the 100% mark on the go forward. When installing your solar panel, I suggest adding a 'drip loop', especially if water could run down the charging cable and get the port wet. This usually happened when the cable is installed higher than the birdhouse. A drip loop drops BELOW the entry point, looping back up to the hole. This prevents water running down the cable into the birdhouse, the drip loop terminate the flow of water and it drips off the loop. Installing the bird house is as easy as fixing a single screw and attaching the mounting hole on the back of the house. The wood is natural finished and you will want to ensure it is shielded from the elements, to preserve the wood and enhance longevity. Placement is important. Do not install the bird house where predators can get at the birds. This is common sense, but think it through and look at the environmental factors that could allow for your bird house to be access or toppled by predators. I unfortunately installed this birdhouse too late in the season and the birdhouse is vacant. I am looking forward to meeting our new bird tenants. All in all, I have to admit I have wanted this type of camera system for a long time. Now that it is installed to my liking, I will patiently wait for a booking on Aviary Airbnb (jokes - no such thing, obviously). If you are a bird enthusiast, this might be the next passion project for you to get a better understanding of our your favourite birds and their lifecycle. I will update this review should anything change or develop. In the meantime, I recommend this birdhouse with camera and solar panel kit on the basis of decent build quality, video and photo image quality, sustainability, educational in nature, giftable, and ease of use.
