Exactly the device I didn’t know I needed
I was looking for a device that could help me read more, sketch out ideas, and replace my long-standing habit of taking copious notes on paper—notes I almost never revisit. I wanted something that could bring all of this together in a more intentional way. I seriously considered the iPad, especially with apps like Procreate and various note-taking tools. A couple of friends, however, strongly recommended the Kindle Scribe. I happened to be in the U.S. over Thanksgiving when this version was discounted by about 30%, and on an impulse, I decided to give it a try. I’m very glad I did. The Scribe itself is superb. The writing experience feels natural and satisfying, and the plant-based cover Amazon offers is excellent—simple, sturdy, and thoughtfully designed. Writing on the Scribe feels close enough to paper that it immediately felt familiar. I’ve only had it for about a month, but in that time I’ve been reading a lot more than usual. I enjoy underlining and annotating as I read, and I can easily see this becoming a replacement for physical books for me. The note-taking experience has been equally strong—I’ve already used it extensively in a couple of workshops, and it’s been genuinely pleasant and fulfilling. There are several features I haven’t explored yet, including the cloud and AI capabilities around notes, and I haven’t fully leaned into sketching and drawing just yet. Even so, based on my experience so far, this has been a fantastic purchase. If you’re someone who reads a lot, takes handwritten notes, or wants a focused, distraction-free alternative to paper or tablets, I’d strongly recommend the Kindle Scribe.

Solid competitor in the e-ink tablet category
I'd been researching this type of device for a while, and I wasn't sure what to expect with Amazon's take on this category. The reason I wanted one is because - while I LOVE my iPad Pro - it's virtually useless when you're sitting out in the sun. I used my Kindle PaperWhite while reading on vacation, and appreciated its ability to not just work, but excel while catching a few rays. However, the PW is horrible at any kind of notation (slow, clumsy keyboard, nowhere to really put "thoughts" unless you create your own blank document, then add "notes" to it). Being able to jot down notes while enjoying the outdoors was really appealing to me. The note-taking experience, while not perfect, is excellent. There is a reason they give you extra pen tips to start, and have them available for easy purchase, as they do wear. The screen is excellent reading quality, amazing resolution clarity, pen accuracy and feel, and - SO MUCH BIGGER than the ol' PW. This has its pros and cons - it's fine for "upright reading", or even laying on your back. But if you like to read while lying on your side in bed, it's cumbersome. And it's heavy to hold without resting on anything for longer periods of time. This includes holding in your hands for note-taking - much like a similar-sized notebook, this is better used for extended times laying flat on a desk. Not a decision-changer, you just have to know what you're getting into. I decided to go all-in on this device, trading in my PW to take advantage of the (AMAZING) deal that AZ offers for folks upgrading their Kindle devices. That means all my reading is on it, and I can see cases where that isn't entirely practical. Overall, I had high hopes and a high standard bar for this device to reach in order to keep it and justify the expense. After a month's use, I can confidently say that for me, it exceeded that expectation thoroughly. I'm looking forward to further software updates including a new Home Screen, more notebook templates (that's my one disappointment, that more can't be added by the user), and Cloud integration - I'm hoping these features that are no the latest version come to this model. Overall, I can see people using this as a note-taker in a professional environment, just like some of its competitors are marketed.

Excellent for Reading, Notes, and Documents
The Amazon Kindle Scribe (64GB) is a fantastic all-in-one device for reading, note-taking, and document management. The large screen is easy on the eyes and perfect for books, PDFs, and writing. Writing feels smooth and natural, storage is more than enough at 64GB, and the battery life is excellent. It’s especially useful for organizing notes and marking up documents without distractions. Overall, this is a powerful, focused device for anyone who reads and takes notes regularly. Highly recommend.
