Great quality
s a millwright, I use this dial indicator daily for alignment work, and it’s been a game-changer. The magnets are strong and reliable, which is crucial when working with heavy equipment. I really appreciate how flexible and easy it is to position—it saves time and frustration on the job. Solid build quality and dependable performance make this a must-have tool in my kit.

Surprised how well made this is.
To be honest I was skeptical buying this. That changed once it arrived and I unpacked this device and examined the built in quality! Finely machined materials, completely flexible and sturdy! It is well worth the money if a shade tree mechanic like me can determine the run out on my truck rotors for a few bucks. Heck, if the run off is out of spec, well, no choice: buy new rotors. If it’s in spec, guess what, there’s something else that’s causing the problem and buying ten pair of new rotors won’t fix the problem! A great addition to the shop for sure. Once I take off the front tires tomorrow, this little baby may have already paid for itself.

Haven't used yet but i think they will do the job

False advertising
Doesn't tighten up to be able to indicate any surface...Garbage, returned immediately. Waste of time and money.

Great product
Exactly what I was needing

The dial is good but when you try and tighten the arm when its curved you have to hold it straight up and tighten the end at the dial before you bend it otherwise the the lock near the base won't tighten down fully and you'll get inaccurate results

I ordered this device mostly because of the dial indicator. It comes in a very sturdy plastic storage container and includes the dial indicator, the magnetic base, and a gooseneck arm to connect the two. The base has a magnet that moves inside it at a turn of a flag handle. The magnet is not the strongest type, but the base itself is pretty heavy. The gooseneck arm is supposed to be able to assume necessary shape and stay rigid when you lock it with a latch. I could not make it latch securely, unless it was kept straight. The adjustment screw that tightens the steel cord inside this arm did not help much. In any case, the indicator was the main part I needed. It has 1" range of measurement, which is huge considering the sensitivity of it. The minor scale division is 1 mil (0.001 inch), a full turn is 0.1 inch. The indicator looks solid, except the lens is thin plastic, so it will get scratched in no time at all. The dial may be rotated to set the zero point at the necessary position. To rotate the dial, a lock screw needs to be loosened. The indicator comes with two clip markers on the dial rim, they may be removed and re-attached where needed. The problem is, you have to remove these markers before rotating the dial, otherwise they catch on the locking screw. This is an obvious design deficiency. The markers may be replaced with small pieces of electric tape, so this is not that critical. The indicator as is may be useful, for example for setting up a CNC router. I would not trust the gooseneck arm however, and the magnetic base is only useful with magnetically attracted surfaces.

This is a pretty entry level setup. The base is decently heavy, the magnet is that as strong as some other more expensive budget “brands” though. The dial indicator works but is sort of temperamental, it works smoothly *most* of the time but every once in a while it gets a little jumpy and not as smooth. The arm is the biggest negative for me. It just doesn’t work that well, it won’t hold the indicator up sometimes and has too much defection. Depending on the radius of the arm it works better or worse. So the more straight it is the easier it is to tighten and keep stable. Over all not a bad setup, for a budget friendly shop that isn’t doing any real precision work.
