Jar lid Needs a Pop Before a Twist
When I received this product and noticed that while there wasn’t any extra packaging for leak protection, it was tightly packed and thankfully arrived without any spills or damage. The jar design confusing at first because it doesn’t open with a simple twist, you actually need to pop it open the first time before you can twist it on and off for storage later. It was helpful from other reviewers to pop the lead. As for my experience, I fed the starter with whole wheat flour and non-chlorinated water for a few days, but I didn’t see much activity beyond a few bubbles. I have kept it in a warm spot in the house and wondered if the colder weather might be slowing things down. I’m hopeful it will pick up soon, but so far the results have been a bit slower than I expected.update : I reached out to Livingdough about why I wasn’t seeing any bubbles, and they quickly pointed out exactly what I was doing wrong and how to fix it. The instant response and clear guidance made such a difference — now my starter is active and full of bubbles!

Made sourdough easy for this beginner baker
I cannot say enough good things about this starter! After struggling to get my homemade starter off the ground and failing I decided to try the San Francisco starter. It’s amazing, came back to life after just one feeding and I was baking with it after 2. It makes wonderful bread with a nice crust. It came with clear directions to feed it that even a complete beginner like myself can follow. Highly recommend!

Feed it nightly
It's a daily task on this. Feeding it bread flour and filtered water but, the end result is worth it !!! I feed it for about 2 weeks then had some really sour sour dough bread. I also saved a portion so i can keep feeding it for the next batch

Great customer service
My starter developed harmful bacteria (pink stuff) called Serratia marcescens after just one week. That has never happened before. I followed all the directions the seller provided. I requested help from the seller and am waiting to hear back. UPDATE: the seller walked me through and helped me troubleshoot the problem and is sending me a new starter. Thank you!

Excited for my new pet to grow :D!!
This is my first time with a sourdough starter, and I’m super excited :P. It kinda feels like I have a pet to feed now! It actually smelled really nice when I opened it, and I can’t wait until it’s ready to use! It came with instructions on how to feed and store it, which was nice. I kinda wish some recipes had been included though, or maybe some tips on what’s recommended for certain things, like what kind of jar I should store it in, what type of flour is best, what should it look like if it’s ready, and what the ideal temperature and humidity are. Overall, this seems like a great quality product and I’m gathering recipes to make once it’s ready :).

Great Starter!
Day 2, and the San Francisco starter is going great! This is after only the initial feeding (after which the weight was 4.4oz) and one feeding 12 hours ago. The tape is where it was when I put it on this jar after feeding last night, and the rise is great. I’m a very happy camper 😁

Living Dough
This starter is great. It takes so long to create a starter and this comes ready to feed and multiply. It makes delicious sourdough bread. It comes with directions for those who don't know how to care for a starter.
