Sherlock: Seasons 1-4 & Abominable Bride Gift Set (BD) In this modernized version of the Conan Doyle characters, using his detective plots, Sherlock Holmes lives in early 21st century London and acts more cocky towards Scotland Yard's detective inspector Lestrade because he's actually less confident. Doctor Watson is now a fairly young veteran of the Afghan war, less adoring and more active. Written by KGF Vissers. Review: Sherlock Complete Gift Set is a Masterpiece of Crime Solving and Blu-Ray Artistry! - I recently purchased the "Sherlock: Seasons 1-4 & Abominable Bride Gift Set" on Blu-ray and I am blown away! This set is truly a masterpiece of crime solving and Blu-ray artistry. First off, the show itself is amazing. Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman bring the iconic duo of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson to life in a modern-day London. The writing is sharp, witty, and suspenseful, and the cinematography is simply stunning. From the gritty streets of London to the grandeur of Buckingham Palace, the show immerses you in its world from the very first episode. But what really sets this gift set apart is the attention to detail in the packaging and extras. The set comes in a beautiful, sturdy box with a stylish and minimalist design. Inside, each season is packaged in its own separate case with stunning artwork and episode guides. And let's not forget the Abominable Bride special, which is also included in its own separate case. But the real treasure trove of this set is the special features. From cast and crew interviews to behind-the-scenes looks at the making of the show, there is so much content to dive into. I particularly enjoyed the featurettes on the making of the iconic characters and the show's signature visual style. Overall, I cannot recommend this gift set enough to any fan of Sherlock Holmes or crime-solving dramas. The show itself is a modern classic, and the packaging and extras in this set truly do it justice. So put on your deerstalker hat, grab your magnifying glass, and prepare to be transported into the fascinating world of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson. Review: A great series - This set is just a packaging of all 4 seasons, plus the special episode that bridged seasons 3 and 4, called The Abominable Bride. You get all the same blu-ray packaging and content that you would have got if you purchased the seasons individually. There are no special extras for getting this set. Sherlock was a series, that consisted of essentially three hour and a half long movies per season. They each told modified stories from the books, and with the exception of The Abominable Bride, told them in modern-day England. The Abominable Bride was the only episode with the story (mostly) set in the late 1800s. The show sported a great cast, with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman at the head as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson, respectively. The two had great chemistry, bringing to life a great relationship that was set out in the novels and adapted by the writers. The series does get progressively darker over the course of time, which not everyone that is a fan of the show likes. It does an interesting job with the character of Moriarty, who is, of course, Sherlock's main adversary. He is used fairly sparingly throughout the series, really only being the focus of one episode, but in the background of almost all of them. Andrew Scott does a great job with the character, definitely making him a worthy adversary for Sherlock. The Blu-ray extras are more extensive in seasons one and two than they are in seasons three and four. They generally include commentary tracks, as well as behind-the-scenes and making-of featurettes. There are no deleted or extended scenes. For season one the original pilot of the show is included, which was remade when the network decided it wanted longer episodes. Overall, the series is very good to great. It, of course, made Cumberbatch and Freeman breakout stars, but the entire cast whether they ware series regulars like Rupert Graves, Una Stubbs, or Louise Brealey, or recurring or one-off characters like Mark Gattis (who was also the co-creator of the show), Andrew Scott, or Lara Pulver, was always wonderful. As others have noted, the first set I received was really beaten up, with all the cases broken or cracked. I did a return and replacement and the second set was fine. So, definitely check out your set right away because it does seem like there is a bad batch of them out there.

A fun, bingeworthy set
The shows were a fun "blast from the past" for my wife and I. We enjoyed being able to binge the series (a bit at a time) with the added commentary, and behind-the-scenes bonus material added into this set. It was packaged nicely, and the sound and subtitles were clear. It was a little annoying having to sit through the promo at the beginning of each disc and not being able to forward through that, but other than that, this set was quite enjoyable.

Buy it while you can!
This is such a good series and Amazon Prime Day made it impossible to refuse. You never know when a streaming service is going to get rid of content due to licensing agreements or when your “purchased” digital content will no longer be available because the host went bankrupt, so if you really like something you ought to purchase physical media. This series is certainly worthy. Too bad they didn’t make more seasons, but it was a labor of love for all involved.

Good storytelling
Good series and storytelling. Because of the accent dialogue it is sometimes hard to hear what is being said but then I back the disk up and play again. Disk so far play well. Great actors. Price right also

Sir Doyle would be proud!!!
Others have already written great reviews, so mine will be short. I think my title explains it well. If Sir Arthur Conan Doyle were to view this new version of his works, I think he'd laugh out loud with delight and surprise! I think he'd be very satisfied with how his cerebral adventures have been transported and reinterpreted into modern times. This is INCREDIBLY GOOD!!! Obviously the stories have stood the test of time - there's a very good reason the Sherlock Holmes series is regarded (globally) as one of THE BEST literary tomes on the planet! The adventures of Sherlock Holmes has appeared on video and film many, many times. Rathbone and Brett skilfully portrayed Sherlock and are the best (old style) versions available, but this new version is by far THE MOST exciting, compelling, and brilliant! No video library is complete without Cumberbatch, Brett, and Rathbone! Even the most staunch Sherlock Holmes fan would give a nod to this version. One not so familiar would still find themselves giving a standing ovation for just how deliciously good this is!!!
